Together with the SFA model, the IFS models are by far the nicest-looking bakkies even today. I have never cottoned on to the new Vigo shape, looks clumsy.

4Y engines are generally replaceable with no problem except for the Sump cover. This being the case, simply use your existing sump cover on the new engine, you will note that the "humps" are in two different places.

That needs a bit of work but those models are as tough as tanks. People who own them will not want to sell them. Spares might now be a problem but there is a facebook SFA group that might be able to assist with spares, unfortunately I do not have that link so hopefully someone else can chip in here....

High-mileage as in how many kms? Those engines are virtually bullet-proof. I personally would repair the engine if it is really necessary, fitting a diesel will be expensive and you would probably need to change the diff ratios for best performance. If you take the cluster out, measure the voltage across the cluster lights. If this measures less than 12v you should be able to sort something out but if it is indeed 12, then you need to put higher-wattage bulbs in the cluster.

Uh, yes, I had an EFI manifold but gave that away just before Christmas. Have a chat with Louis Zannoli, he specialises in EFI conversions.

I had one when I went the EFI route but gave the Nikki away to someone unfortunately. Consider this an opportunity to convert to an EFI system, you will never regret it, it makes a world of difference to the 4Y performance.

Hazarding a guess I would think that the -ve wiper lead has gone to earth somewhere, but that is only a guess. Might be problem elsewhere.

Are there any after-market items fitted to the vehicle that might be causing an electrical loop somewhere down the line?

Thabo, the VHF licence comes at no charge to Club Members, as long as your Club Membership remains valid.

As far as I know, you should get a letter informing you of the Club membership renewal when it is time to do so. Otherwise, just log into the www.hiluxclub.co.za and check your profile.

I cannot really answer your question but I do not think the alternator is built for sustained high-amperage output. A car battery is usually charged at high amperage for only a few minutes and then the charge rate tapers off as it reaches full charge. I would recommend buying a smallish pure sine-wa...

Rudi, I took Bulldog for a service a few months ago and they changed the spark plugs and fitted standard ones. I only noticed this now, and I cannot remember the correct plugs number. Please let me have the plug data if you can, will be much appreciated.

The Solar Panels cannot "force" amps into the battery, the battery will draw what it requires, so no need to cover any panels. The most important thing to check for is the voltage from the SP array, it should read 12.8-13.8v maximum off-load or on-load.

As Peter says, there should be no problem, just keep an eye on the voltage that it stays at around 13.8v for a flat battery, then stabilises to around 13.2 - 13.5v for a steady charge and no more than 13.1v for a float charge. The 7A battery will draw what it needs so no problem if the SP can supply...
