I have 154 000 on the clock, the last 12k is mine. The previous owners have basically done nothing, everything was original what I've seen so far. Including all seals, shocks, spark leads... :) So I bet the rear main is from 87 aswell.
Good call, changing it though!

4Y Clutch questions
Hi guys I have some clutch slipping going on, and will change it. It's a 1987 4Y, YN67. A buddy will let me access his shop, so I get a lift, and will drop the transmission. I have a buddy with me, and a weekend to do it, but need to be done that weekend before shop opens up again. The market in Norw...

Re: what changes at 30 km/h?
AH, I see! I had the carb out a while ago, and figured the secondary venturi was vacuum operated only. I did not see why or how this would be attached to the secondary choke though? As I had it out, all the links are clean and nothing gunked up. I hit the carb with a healthy dose of WD40, and could ...

Re: what changes at 30 km/h?
I will to that Hoppy, thanks! I don't understand why it would interfere at 30 km/h though? My reasoning is like this, please correct me if I misunderstood this; -As far as I know, these dont have a speed sensor, so at no point should the engine know how fast the truck is travelling. -Vacuum is relat...

what changes at 30 km/h?
Hi guys This is still regarding my 4Y manual transmission, had it running good for a while there, new problem now though! With the truck running under 30 km/h everything is normal, when i go over 30km/h , it revvs up to around 3-3500 and stays there, happily racing. (I don't have a tach, so it's a g...

Re: 4Y starting issues solved
I ended up follwoing my fathers advise, he said that most carburettor problems are actually ignition problems. So I gave that area a good looking over. I replaced the ground strap inside the distributor with a home made one, the cable from the negative coil to the distributor with another ...

Re: 4Y starting issues
I now consider the carb to be clean.. Some issues remains.. How does this look to you guys, this is the view from underside of the carb, and the linkage for the throttle position. This arm of the throttle linkage does not touch when throttle off, and also not when applied "vacuum" (my fing...

Re: 4Y starting issues
Now i have a craburettor on my kitchen table! So far is has gone well, but I am aprehensive about taking too much of it appart.. I will d othis in baby steps, getting to know it, rather than explode it and mess it up. So a thorough cleaning of all accesible parts, took the airhorn off to a...

Re: 4Y starting issues
Ahh, cool, thanks zepplin. I figured it had been a filter, or a one way valve. As it sits, it is a plug  I'll shop around for a new tomorrow, as well as a couple of cans of carb cleaner and a new fuel- filter. Then hope it does not snow next chance I have to get underhood! To take th...

Re: 4Y starting issues
Progress report; Today I got into the truck for an hour, before it got to dark.. I have checked all the plugs, cap, rotor, cables and coil, that seems to check out good, plugs look happy, and everything is dry and measures ok. Cleaned the air-intake,and verified the flapper door closes whe...

Re: 4Y starting issues
Thanks for the input! Verifying the choke works is easy, sounds like stripping and cleaning main jets, the carb needs to come out? I was hoping to get to choose when to do that, on a hill in the rainy cold Oslo winter is not ideal.... I have a good workshop, but i need to drive to it. Will look at i...

Re: Greetings from norway!
Thanks guys, nice to feel so welcome! I think the 4Y and the SFA is a nice mix also, it's underpowered and over-axeld, wich is nice. Means you wont break the drivetrain with the engine power alone.... The 4Runner with the 22RE was a bit more peppy, and i would probably say thats the perfect engine f...

Re: 4Y starting issues
Thanks for the reply! I would guess it has electrical fuel pump. It's all stock, what i've seen so far, so suppose thats whats in it? I have a meticolous approach to checking my oil and water and general underhood condition; every time i fire up the truck, as in every day.. However I am not familiar...

4Y starting issues (solved, see last post)
Hi guys! This is regarding a 4Y engine in a 1987 SFA I did a suspension upgrade yesterday on the front, with great success. (I now have a front axel that articulates..... ) After, I fired her up and drove home (18minutes) from my workshop. This morning, I have a no start situation. Is the ...

Greetings from norway!
Hi there! I have been lurking this forum for a while, but figured it was time to make myself known, and hopefully get some help eventually with my Norwegian 87 hilux! It's a SFA with a 4Y engine, manual gearbox and 142000 km on the clock. The truck has been running on a farm most it's life, and has ...
