Re: Bird migration
That is fascinating! I had the fortune to spend several years working in Finland and it always amazed me to see the number and variety of birds that landed on its shores from all over the world every summer. The locals take birdwatching very seriously and there is even an annual competition to spot ...

Abnormal sound when pulling off from 1st gear
Hi all, I have a niggling sound coming from the front end of my Hilux that I hope someone can help me with. It seems to only occur when I pull off under load e.g. Uphill It sounds like rattling pans/pots and can only be heard for a few seconds until I change up into 2nd gear. I have a 2001 IFS 2.7i ...

Canopy dilemma
Hi fellow Hilux enthusiasts, I have 2001 D/C 2.7i IFS and am looking to fit a canopy. I really like the RSi canopies as they are made from automotive stainless steel and can be painted to spec, but unfortunately they do not make one for this model of hilux. Any other suggestions for something simila...

PG glass incompetence- Help!
Hi all. So last week my windscreen gets cracked by a passing truck so I took it to PG glass for replacement. They came and replaced it at my home while I was at work so I did not see what was being done (first mistake.....). When I got home I noticed immediately that the rubber seal around the winds...

Hi all. I would very much appreciate it if someone could recommend a good mechanic in the Pretoria area that specializes in older IFS 4x4 models. Many thanks in advance!

Thanks yotaman . How many kms you got? Had the hilux roadworthied today. Nearly had a fit as the inspector was literally trying to pull the front door off its hinges. Re: Look what I found hidden in a garage for 13 years
If anyone is interested in the wheels contact me. They are 20 inch mags with Yokohama Advan S/T tyres. Still have approx. 70% tread on them. Apparently the previous owner paid R25000 for them. I will sell them for R15000. Still good as new

Look what I found hidden in a garage for 13 years
2001 Toyota Hilux raider D/C 2.7i 4x4. Completely original except for the mags and stainless bull bar. Best thing about this car is the mileage. 55,000 km! :yahoo: Now I just need to put some practical wheels on and I am away! Hulle blink pragtag maar hulle is nie baie prakties vir die Bos nie

Re: Fuel starvation problem 2.7i 1999 D/C
Hi. Update on my "fuel starvation" problem. Fuel pressure was ok. Turned out to be a dirty hot wire airflow meter that caused an incorrect air to fuel ration. The sensor was taken apart, cleaned and replaced. Vehicle now runs perfectly. Worth a thought if you have similar problems

Re: Engaging 4x4 without going off road
Andy... One final question on the subject from someone who clearly has a lot to learn about the Hilux... How do I know if I have indeed broken the weakest link using 4x4 on tar? Noise? Inability to engage 4x4? I only did it for about 20km (mostly straight road) thinking that in order to lock the hub...

Re: Engaging 4x4 without going off road
I take your word for it find it strange that the manual does not give any such warnings. They warn against using diff lock on surfaced roads but do not warn against using 4h. Just recommend using for wet or icy roads. You would think they would mention it if it was going to cause problems. Anyway.. ...

Re: Engaging 4x4 without going off road
As far as I know axle wind up will only occur if the diff lock is engaged. Driving in 4x4 on tar roads with hubs locked will not damage the drive train. It will just increase fuel consumption

Fuel starvation problem 2.7i 1999 D/C
Hi, I recently bought a 1999 2.7i D/C 4x4 with 55 000kms on the odometer (unbelievable but true). The car is like new and perfectly looked after, but after driving it for several weeks, I have noticed that when accelerating the car shudders as if there is a fuel starvation problem. Any ideas? The ca...
