Leon, when I rebuilt my Constantia I was referred to Robs Steering in Goodwood to rebuild the Constantia's steering box. They did a good job and they know their story.
I am sure they will do steering racks as well.

Depends on how much you love it. You calculated that repair cost will be around R80k. If you have that available you can sell the KZ for R90k, as is, add the R80k and you have R170k cash on deposit for newer model or even buy a newer model cash.

There is a reason why they are so cheap.

Spares expensive, hard to work on, not reliable vehicles.

Many other cars to choose from but Merc and BMW probably the worse of all when 2nd hand.

Why not try an Auris, for slightly more you can get an Auris of same age.

See you are in Cape Town. If you look at the old SFA look for rust at the roof, just above the gutters and the A-pilar in front of the windscreen. Also the bottom of the doors tend to rust. Brakes are binding, just try a bit harder to drive it forward or backwards, but just be careful, when it suddenly realeases it will move quickly. Depending on where it is parked make sure there is space for it to move once it gets loose.

Agree, is much better to sell extras seperately. At R50k above the normal selling price it will take you ages to sell your Hilux and in the end you will just drop the price. Don't know either, but I think on petrol it is different. If you force in more air the air flow meter reads more air and will give more fuel to keep the mixture correct. So it will not run lean. Since engine has been redone thrice I guess the leak can only be the torque converter seal.
