I'm just going to ask... what quality controls are there when manufacturing bio-diesel? From all the talk I've heard each producer can decide on their quality controls and output specs... based on the cost of replacing a D4D's injectors and/or engine... I'm not going to be the guinea pig on this one!

Good point Pieter. That said I'd love to know what Toyota SA will ask for a brand new D4D engine. Would be interesting to compare this price tag to the total purchase price of the Hilux it is fitted in! It's pretty clear the nickname "Stealers" fits well!

I've got no problem with chipping, but it must be done right. You don't buy a 2nd hand unit and fit it to your vehicle and just drive. It must be tuned properly on a dyno. The D4D engine is available from the engine importers/scrapyards... except to pay R 40K+ for one in decent condition! Remember lots of the import engines come out of delivery vehicles in the East... anyone know a delivery driver that treats the vehicle/engine well?

The FJ and Fortuner use the same V6 engine, the 1GR-FE. The engine has been in production since 2004 and has had many performance tweaks over the years. The engine is tuned differently for various applications too.

While you at it why not drill another hole and install a water/meth injector to lower the EGT? I'm thinking of doing it, as I've read of so many turbo diesels that crack heads from too high EGT's.

Johan, you're right. The Monroe unit is a very good option. It's a heavy duty unit, especially good for the guys that do the hard offroad obstacle bashing. I did buy one of them just before I sold my SFA... sold to Hoppy... think it's now on Luxster. I ordered the shock through SupaQuick Brackenfell.
