Re: 22R rebuild - what do you think of this job?

The timing chain problem on the 2nd generation of 22R's is well documented. From Wikipedia: Toyota swapped the dual-row timing chain used in older engines for a single-row chain with plastic guides in 1983. The new system reduced drag on the engine but introduced a new maintenance problem. After abo...

The 2.5tdi WL is a great engine, but the conversion still doesn't come cheap!

Get some real fuel consumption figures for the WL before forking out for the conversion... it may be cheaper in the long run to stay with the 22R, or possibly fuel inject it(if you can find the parts required!).

Have read that the automatic always seem to be hunting for gears I've got a 4x4 Auto D4D and the gearbox ratios are well sorted. I've never experienced hunting, off-road or on tar. Hi, batch firing is correct. You won't win anything with sequential injector firing. Sequential firing would require a much more accurate timing method like a crank timing sensor. The magnetic distributor based timing won't do.

IMHO, it's the turbo that's making it guzzle fuel!
