is it chipped? or has the ecu been remapped (perhaps by a previous owner)?

black smoke is fuel in a diesel.

If its stock, maybe get the injectors cleaned and checked.

@montie have you had the vehicle from new?
Could be that the EGR has already been disabled via the software by a previous owner.
My D4D with less than 160 000kms had a very dirty EGR. Looked like it was packed with wheel bearing grease

I've disabled the EGR on my Isuzu via software. No issues

Stock ECU or you running a chip? If running a chip try removing it. Taking a while to start does sound like glow plug related as Mud Dog said. If you turn the key to on, how long does the glow plug light stay illuminated on the dash? Also try turning to on, then off when the glow plug light goes off...

Prices are decent and quality is good.

I've seen it on the grey. Looks good.

If not changing wheels I would definitely not go for the big flares with the studs. It makes the current wheels look skinny.

Welcome to the forum. Wiggle the turbo shaft and check for any play. Also look for scoring on the inside of the housing. If there is a fair amount of oil then I suggest you send it in for the seals. you can use throttle body cleaner spray to clean the areas of the piping which have sensors.

for the normal pipe pieces you can use acetone.

I started using Sasol 10ppm and 2SO in my Fortuner.

consumption went from 8.7km/L to 9.2km/L

Then I used it from GP to Durbs and it went to 11km/L

Back now for 2 weeks and it's on 10km/L

usually on a Toyota you would remove the rear seat and can then access the fuel filter and pump. The Avanza should be the same

There is a clutch squeal on the D4Ds thats kinda normal. You learn to live with it.
Something to do with the clutch throw out bearing and its lubrication.

Isn't the sulphur/typical diesel smell an indication that the injectors may be on their way out?
Try popping in a bottle of wynns diesel injection cleaner with about 30L of fuel and see if there is any difference

the spot welds on the scissor mechanism seem to be a weak spot. Does the motor run/try to run when you toggle the switch?
Perhaps remove the door pad and check the mechanism is in place and working

When you let go of the clutch the starter is supposed to stop swinging.
On an auto i think it works with the brake pedal.

try starting off with a small screwdriver to create a "pilot" hole so its easier to get a bigger one in without too much hammer swinging

Hi, Yes Toyota will still cover the spiral cable for the airbag issue. Regarding the clutch, it could just need that the fluid be replaced and the system be bled.
