You sound like you know what you are doing. Open it up and take a look. It already doesn't work so whats to lose? I know the transfer part is fairly simple in theory, perhaps in reality it isn't but common sense should get you over most obstacles.

Yes it seems to be giving me better fuel consumption. On a 65 litre tank I got 500km with 5 people in the car and 300kg of stuff in the back. That is IF...... and a big if, I drive nicely. So not a massive increase but still much better then the 5.5km/l I was getting.

Guys just a little more info on tuning the carburetor enhancer, once you have all the stuff on the carb start the engine with the tap fully closed, slowly open it until the engine wants to die, back it off slightly until the engine runs smoothly again. Also check your fuel solenoid, sometimes especially when old they like to get stuck. Wheel bearings? Perhaps just jack the vehicle up and check the play also take time to look at all the steering joints etc. You may find the source of the problem.

So I took both boxes out myself and sent it to the local gearbox centre R1800 for all seals and to reseal where the box had been leaking in the middle. Way less hassle and stress and they even pickup and deliver.

My apologies, It is a 22r. Thanks Mud Dog, just the info I needed. Yes the lower end doesn't feel like the old 4y I used to drive. It hits its power peak at about 3500 RPM. Mud Dog, did your cam have a slight miss while idling?

I took the bakkie to have wheel alignment done today and the guy didn't know how to set it properly. Apparently all you can set is the toe on the front axle. The Camber and Caster was set when the bakkie was built. Looking at the alignment machine I was shocked to see how far out of alignment it was...
