Snorkle it, It is the best thing you can do for a motor it picks up the air alot higher then all the dusty muck lower near the road.... I disagree, Diesels in Hilux's (mainly the 2.8D) are bullet proof. What else can you drive under water, through the snow, along the beach and not have one little is...

Keep the locker in the front.... I would never go back to a open center front diff. They do take abt to get useto but well worth it.

I use a pin type one (square box section with the locator pin in it aka Hayman Ryce style) for all recoveries and to anchor the ute during winching. I have however used high tensile nuts and bolts (12.5 tensile if I rember correctely) and have renforced the bar and never had a failuar, bend or flex ...

should pull the diff out yourself, the rear diffs basicaly fall out once you have pulled the axles out so once it is out you can check it out to see what is worn/stuffed. It is a cheep way to check it as all it costs is your time in doing it. Any help with info, specs or anything just ask...

I went to a Hilux club things abot 2 months ago and we got to drive them around Queensland Raceway ad lets just say these things are a bullet easily got to 180km/h down the straight and handled like it was on rails....

Well iv been doing abit of playing around and so I decided to make a power distribution for the tray of my Hilux so all my roll bar camp lights and accessories sockets are easily accessible and run off my 2nd battery that is in the tray. I made it from scratch with bits and pieces bought from Jaycar...

Nice 2.8 mate, I belive the 2.8D has no issues with running a turbo system.... They run most of the same gear as the 2.4D wich came from factory with a turbo system. However a EGT gauge is a must

Well its been awhile.... But iv been busy...
Iv added the following things to the hilux
-New washer jets so I can see where im going 8)
-In cab winch controls
-Moved allrelays/fuses from engine bay to under the dash
And just a general tidy up of everything. Will post pics when I get a chance

My 2 cents.... A quality electric winch is a very good investment. It gives you more freedom by not waiting for mates to go out wheeling with you. Yes you can use LSD oil in non-LSD diffs just not the other way around. They should both be hypoid oils and so on but its sunday morning and im to hungover to go into it....

to get it out effectively without damaging and nut/thread you need a balljoint seperating tool. It is alot lik a falk and a solid bar that is scewed up and "pops" the bolt out. You can get then for about $10AUS from nearly all auto parts stores and come in very handy for other things.

Spoke to the tyere shop today the 35x15 R15lt are $580AUS each fitted and balanced, hope this gives you a rough idea.

They are avaible off the shelf in Brisbane Australia where I live, I paid $400 a tyere fitted and balanced (Trade price) I will talk to the tyere shop tommrow and find out for you.

Hay mate, They are TSL's in the 33x12.5 R15. They peform better then I could ever expect, I have been as low as 8psi on a 15x10 rim and there is pently of side wall felx then at 31psi on road they are fine. They are a Bias Ply make so they have planty of flexy action highly recomend.

Over here OME shocks arnt realy regarded as the best alot of other brands ie. Tuff Dog and EFS has been beating them in comparson tests not only for performance but value for money as well. I am upgrading my shoucks in my backie to the new Fox shock so will let you know how they go. Just my 2 cents ...

I have a big green army box just for a weekend out I will take mose of your obvious items plus 2 CV's a full socket set (3/8 and 1/2 drive) Highlift jack and a big Canvis.

However I will be doing seals and pistons as well as getting the inner of the calapers sleaved cus they are pitted (dam mud :twisted: ) But will take some pics when I do it for some help. I would be on the CV band wagon with this one could be a slight crack in the inner race or complet failuar like I had. I got lockers front and rear in my backie, was the best money I ever spent and didnt know why I dint do it earlier. The only issue I found was that I brake a few front CV's every now and then with the super swampers on. They make the backie a million times more capable. But you will have to respect ...

I would say outer axle seal, would get onto it before it washes the greese out of the sealed rear wheel bearings. I just did mine. Also the brake shoes realy hate diff oil and should be replaced if found to be soaked with the oil.

A softer suspention would be more willing to flex the a load carrying set up but to the tention in the spring and valving in the shock ect.
If you are after felx I would go a soft spring with a adjustable shock (so it is not a pig to drive on road) **cough rancho 9000 with in cab adjust kit cough**
