Had a D4D that would sometimes just die under hard acceleration, when overtaking etc.
After various fault findings it was the sensor on the common rail tube. It also did not throw any errors.

When it died, You just turn the key of and on and will start first shot again.

If someone along the line over tightened the diesel filter housing after replacing the filter, the plastic crack and will get air into fuel system.

The only gasket that will work there is the steel gasket trust me. I called a buddy at Toyota. Yes he says the system shows discontinued, but its actually just a part nr change. He will phone the factory tomorrow and get the new part nr, then you can go to your dealer and order it. So just hang in t...

When I was at KSD with my D4D, I had a chat with Kosie. They tested these Race chips etc on the dyno, and he confirmed, they do make the extra power they claim, but he told me if you saw how high the EGT temps went, you will get a heart attack.....

The Racechip and the likes that plug into the common rail, the ONLY thing it does, is push more diesel. You will get overfueling, and you will kill your engine. Mine did the same. Just replace the steel gasket. Its like R50 from Toyota.

But dont strip the threads, that aluminium on cooler cant take alot of force.
Over time some oil do go through the system, no need to panic.

KSD did my 76mm exhaust. De Graaff bolt on kit. From turbo to the back.
Pulls like a freight train, also with the Unichip.

Some info for the rest of you guys. its too late for me now. Toyota says the can "re learn" or "re calibrate" the Injectors with their laptop. They basically erase the map on each Injector, and it re learns from fresh. So Injectors that aint running 100% can be corrected at Toyot...

Faulty shims damaged my Injectors.

Ok so the guy called me this afternoon.

It seems like he will be able to rectify the booboo with his proper shimming. Im holding thumbs. Internals so far on the Injectors still look fine.

He said 2 Injectors on idling did not even supply fuel :surrender:

Yes we did.

The new ones are Aluminium type washers, they aint copper anymore.

Ok it seems Im on the right path now. I learned a few things today that I was not aware of. The Machine being used, to test the D4D injector, must be able to read/communicate with the Injector. It must be able to read the Injector just like the ECU would, not 50% of it. I went to a Diesel shop today...

I did not have any problems with the bakkie. It idled smoothly, no smoke at all. So can this valve decide to pack up same time I do injectors? That must be very bad timing :lmao: I still get the feeling I'm missing something small. OR, the dude who did my Injectors stuffed up? He wont check them aga...

I had some injector clatter on my bakkie. It was running fine. No miss, nothing. 89 000km on the clock. 3.0 D4D 2013. So after asking around, I was told to send it in to the Diesel shop in town. Viper and also De Graaff have a 76mm full system from the turbo to the back.

I went back to Toyota. They say its not their problem. So I went to Powerflow, they check and tested, say there is no leaks on exhaust. So what now?? Can the EGT, turbo heat and manifold heat get so high that it will melt a plastic plug on gearbox?? I feel frustrated, want to fix this but dont know ...

Chipbox. Maar ek het hom klaar uitgehaal, hy gaan nie weer terug in bakkie nie :thumbup: Chipbox is glad nie nice nie. Al wat hy doen, is jaag die diesel druk op in die Fuel Rail, en daarom kry jy wat ek nou gekry het :surrender: Sal nou maar n Uni Chip van SAC laat insit saam die exhaust :thumbup:

I found the problem.
Will upload pictures a bit later, struggling with photobucket.

Where the down pipe from Turbo connects onto exhaust system, I have a leak!!

The heat from there also melted plugs on my gearbox :shock2:

For now I will put my money then on cracked exhaust.

Only thing that makes sense to me now.

That carpet started to burn from the bottom, up to the Aircon pipes.

CAT is removed, so heat build up in exhaust it cant be.

Std heat shield above exhaust is still in place also.

I dont know how this happened. I was on my way to a customer. To be honest, I was doing around 180kph for about 10km. When I took the turn off and parked at the top to turn left, I started smelling what was to me a plastic burn smell. Being in an Industrial area, I thought it was smell from a factor...

When I stopped, smoke came from underneath the bonnet. Had to use a fire extinguisher :shock2:

Anybody experienced this before??

Toyota cant give me answers, they still trying their best.

It started burning all around the Aircon pipes. They did a aircon test and there is no leaks.

Depends.

If they fill it up on fast setting, rear tank first.
If they put the pump on slow, standard tank first.

Its got a Y piece now in the filler pipe.

I do service my bakkie every 10,000 km. The bakkie did fall on its side in December, I lodged an insurance claim and the panelbeater said that there was nothing wrong with the engine. I don't know if this contributed to the failure? Would comprehensive insurance normally cover this sort of thing? I...

Hy kan bly wees hy het 255 000km sover, myne het op 70 000km die hele motor en turbo geblaas.

Toe staan hy 2 maande by Dealer want die fabriek kon nie n engine supply nie :thumbdown:

Het net 4500km gery nadat ek hom gekry het en toe verkoop, teen een mase moerse loss ook nog :evil:

Jou liggie kom slegs aan as tenk leeg wys en is, niks te doen met ekstra tank nie.

Few years ago when Gearlocks was still the way to go, a buddy of mine had a Audi in his shop for gearlock fitment.

He took his punch and hammer, and the first hit next to gearlever, made the airbags pop :shock:

The Flood LED bar will blind you. Making it difficult to see far ahead. I know of a few okes with the flood bars that actually took them off.

You can get brand new unused loadbins on Gumtree etc.

Get a quote from panelbeater to fix it up.
Then compare that to a "new" secondhand loadbin.

If the price diff aint much, ask Insurance to rather go for the loadbin. Or you can even pay in if need be. I would.
