Limp Mode for Dummies?

Ever since I bought my 2007 Hilux SRX I have (naively) assumed that this was far too basic a vehicle to get involved with this Limp Mode thing - that only applies to Discoveries! So I have not really paid any attention to all the relevant posts and discussions. Two years ago I took it to SAC for an ...

Re: Dash cams

I know I am a bit late for this party, but nonetheless: 1. ChrisF: I was equally baffled by this video editing business, in fact worse than you as I cannot even do Photoshop. I do not even own a camera. My wife however is a real hotshot with fancy lenses and a years course in Photoshop under her bel...

Re: Information on N/W Namibia sought please

Have you bought Johan Snyman's two books on this area? I am planning a similar trip and am finding his track descriptions invaluable. We will be setting off on about 24 September, also on our own.

Re: Air helpers; do they help??

Like everyone else, I agree with Pieter  Two additional points: How many people know that, in installing the air helpers, you have removed the polyurethane bumpers that saved you when you hit that big hole at speed and bottomed out the suspension? If you under-inflate the air springs, it is...

Re: Bundutec electric rooftop tent

I am genuinely curious to learn just what the attraction of this tent is. I examined one closely about 6 months ago. It was lying on the floor at Wynland 4x4 where it had been brought in for major repairs due to the owner's girlfriend pressing the UP button whilst one of the corner holding catches w...

Re: Buffelsrivier Trail Part 1

No, we did not turn back, We carried on to Sendelingsdrift via Bakkrans Cave, then De Hoop, Kokerboomkloof, Tierhoek Cave and down Helskloof to Vioolsdrif. I just thought that these places are too well known to all to waste time your time on. We have every intention of doing Part 2, probably in Marc...

Buffelsrivier Trail Part 1

In planning our August flower trip we had to get from the Namaqua Park section to the Richtersveld. Following my normal policy of staying off the tar if at all possible, and taking the most direct / interesting route, I decided to do the Buffelsrivier trail. However, I could not find any info less t...

Hello at last

I joined more than a year ago, but have kept a low profile until now. I am retired and hope to make contact with others who are not tied to the normal holiday / leave cycle, preferably Cape based. Some places it would be nice to have company, such as CKGR just after the school holidays in April next...

One final contribution: While you have the headliner down, why not use the opportunity to insulate your roof? I wish I had.

Thanks Haboob. The RTT is from Wild Earth, and we are very happy with it after two 7 day trips.

Brilliant new camp near Seweweekspoort

In early October we were heading from Laingsburg towards Seweweekspoort when the magic hour of 4 pm struck and we started to look for a campsite. Two minutes later a large sign saying PORCUPINE REST CAMP appeared, so we turned in and were very happy that we had. We were among the first paying custom...

Re: Vigo Roofrack tracks

One more thought. Do you really need a metre of track on each side in order to support a solar panel? Or, in my case, a few bags of firewood? The answer is no - about 200 mm with 3 bolts under each foot is sufficient. Doing this would have enabled me to avoid the door pillar area where most of the r...

Re: Vigo Roofrack tracks

OK - here is everything I know about these tracks. Remember that I am just a bumbler who muddled through once! 1. I drilled through the plastic insert, then removed it in order to get sealant right down at metal level. I then put it back and laid the rubber insertion over the top. 2. Do not drill un...

Re: Vigo Roofrack tracks

With regard to the extra care taken by the owner, I noticed when I was examining a lot of roof racks in shopping centre parking areas that the pro's just ignore the fact that the channel in the Hilux roof is too narrow to admit the track, and the plastic insert is below roof level. The tracks sit at...

I tend to agree. Dropping the headliner is not a fun job, and I would not easily tackle it again

Re: Vigo Roofrack tracks

I recently fitted tracks from 4x4 Direct to my 2007 D4D. There are no predrilled holes, and you have to take off the headliner (very carefully). There is a very good U-tube video on how to do this - search for How to remove Tacoma Headliner.
