I have to agree with ASP's comments on the performance of the Pajero offroad. Add OME suspension to the picture and I would completely disagree. I am sure that ASP's new/used Land Cruiser would also have been 'a disappointment' in its standard production form...

This article and the follow up has made me lose all respect for your opinion and ability. In this article you referred to yourself as "As the doyen of "all Things 4x4"" and in the follow up you deny it? Maybe Alzheimer's has something to do with your lapse in memory. If you took the time to find out a bit of the operating instructions of the Pajero you would have known to shift on the fly is limited to 2h - 4h only, the fact that yo did not destroy the gearbox is testament to the build quality of Mitsubishi. If you want to carry on "testing" vehicles and writing about it might I suggest you do some homework as a lot has changed from your first encounter with a 4x4. I used to admire your unbiased knowledge but lately you have become too much of a "celebrity" at the cost of what made you one. In my view it is time to retire from this game as you have become just another spin doctor singing praises to whom ever pays the bills.

According to my sources, this was your first trip to Namibia. how can you make an assumption like that when you have never tested any other vehicle in this terrane. I would like to re - assure the pajero customer. dont listen to this ONE TRACK mind.Pajero customers know that you've never been unsatisfied with your pajero. in most cases, you are helping other vehicles get out of their problems. No matter what you say, Pajero dont roll over.Toyota must be paying Andrew very well to drag his own identity through **** and back. if you have tried with other 4x4's, then you can make this assumption. This leaves me with one saying for Andrew: Dont bite off what you can't chew. leave the offroading for the professionals.

hi mr white, i am very sorry to hear about your saga in the PAJERO , it just show's you that there are some poeple out there that know sweet bokerol about driving a 4x4 and may i add that off road driving is an adventure and not a race track , for that you need to contact Shumi , maybe he will assist you with some driving skills. have a great day because i am having a AWSOME day driving my PAJERO.

Hi AndrewYou might be a motoring journalist,but you certainly dont have a clue on how to drive a real 4x4.I can certianly back this statement up,as one of my collegues,who is a 4x4 specialist was on the same trip,and i believe you were the laughing stock of the whole group.He mentioned that you are a wanna be Jeremy Clarkson/Richard Attenborough and your off rode driving skills are much to be desired.To all Mitsubishi followers,this man is sponsoured by Toyota,so what more could you expect

I did not post it to run Pajeros down I posted to show what happens if you write something nasty about somebody's vehicle.

I am sure we would react the same way if somebody published an article like that about an Hilux.

Thanks for the link. I see it this way. The guy said it as it is. It is as good as if he said that the new Luxes lack bietjie ground clearance in front, need maybe a lifted suspension, get rid of the plastic bumber etc. to make it 4x4 /safari ready. I mean, most of the guys on this forum do those sort of things to their vehicles anyway..

I will certainly not get uptight if someone says that my old SFA Lux is to hard and bumpy in front..I know it is hard already :!: :!: So it's then my choice to do something about it... but the fact still remains that the thing is bumpy!

I think that should they follow his advice in what he said, their vehicles not get damaged that much in the ruff...especially surrounding ground clearance and those plastic bumpers.

I also would never have wasted time watching his TV series, in the light of the poor show of last year's episodes. But after reading fairly positive reports about the new "4WD - Take A Deep Breath" series, I decided to give it a go, and found a world of difference! The new series (at least the last three episodes featuring Greg van der Reis) and the Richtersveld is a must watch! I have certainly revised my opinion of the Fortuner's off-raid capabilities, after watching Andre de Villiers & Andrew White take the vehicle to extremes.

Eric, I was at home yesterday, and happened to see the Richtersveld - Fortuner episode on the MNET CSN channel... the review of the facelift Fortuner was good, but listening to Mr ASPW for an extended period of time gets a bit much... the constant repetition gets to me... the terrain that they said was a grade 5 certainly didn't look like a grade 5 to me... maybe a 4 at most!

I am reading one of the three books that Jeremy Clarckson wrote on cars, he says that the more honest you get the less cars you get to drive, for many years Toyota refused to give him cars to review(as we know they have not mastered building exciting road cars) , now he seriuosly enjoys his job with the BBC as they have the budget to buy a car, test it and resell (or destroy) it.
So he can say what he wants, but not without at least a thousand complaints per day from all over the world, he is still not put off by this and his show gets top ratings worldwide and definately gets my vote!

ASPW said a few negative things like Clarkson would, every vehicle has bad points incl. our Hilux's, it's for the buyer to descide wich ones he is prepared to live with and it's the tester's job to report it!

Well I did not read ASPW's article but in general I stopped reading his stuff long ago as I believed he turned into a ppl. He is clearly a LC fan and since I don't generally like LC fans I don't like him too but ja maybe I am biased.

A Pajero is a luxury 4x4 and the new generation ones just like Prados etc do have a lot of Tupperware on their luxury models. I am the first to admit that I have done some Tupperware damage to mine, but the longer I drive it the more I am developing respect for it. I (unlike my other cars) did not buy the Pajero out of a "passionate" decision, but rather as a vehicle I selected after comparing different models for price value for money etc.

At the time I bought my 2003 Pajero with all the creature comforts with below 100 000kms and still an active warranty for R 200K the only other choices I had was Nissan Patrols (which is also a good buy but they are very beeg) or 1998-99 Prado's with much less luxury/features etc, they were all high mileage ( 200 000+kms) and many of them showed it in wear and tear.

Other then that only Korean stuff which I decided against. Back to the Tupperware, the not so luxurious GLX model has lot less Tupperware and is more suited for rough and tough.

When I went to Botswana I used an oldish 2.8 turbo diesel 7 seater Pajero - with metal bumpers and I went on a little game drive in it and I enjoyed the vehicle - it was very comfortable driving from Gabarone to Zim on their bad roads - their M1 is our N1 and is full of potholes. I would use that Pajero anyday

Jaaah, i enjoyed reading the replies, very entertaingin stuff.

To me having a passion is of absolute importance, it can be anything, stamps, cars, pets or bikes, who cares, the fact is i believe in the world we live in today the number of people that is truly passionate about something is on a decline, rather the population is living a 8-5, answering to the $ and losing all his sense of adventure and individualism.

The Pajero guys got goed die m..r in, good, like us, they have a passion for what they believe in, and will protect that.

Thanks to whoever wrote that initial review on the PAJERO, u gave me a good laugh, respect.
