GPS - anomaly in data bewteen total and moving time

Post by Harold »

I’m getting conflicting data on my GPS when used for walking.

For example:
Distance 5,3km Total time 69 min Overall average 4,6 km/hr

Distance 5,3km Moving time 54min Moving speed 5.9 km/hr
Fastest speed 11,5 km/hr.

During my walk I never stopped once, nor did I run so a top speed of 11,5 is definitely wrong.

Why the difference?

When driving this anomaly does not occur.

Where do you carry the GPS? IS it attached to your wrist or did you hold it in your hand? If this is the case it would have recorded higher speeds as it would have perceived your speed as your speed moving forward plus the speed of your arm swinging forward. This will also explain the time stopped as it would have registered a stop when you swing your arm backwards. m2cw

GPS - Nuvi 500.

Thanks CasKru:
Your explanation would be the reason for the differences as I do carry it in my hand.
