Has anybody had any experience with these units.

I see you can program it yourself.
Do anyone know what the price is?

All radio's can be programmed, however you nee the software and pc - radio cable. Not sure if you require a ARL to do this? FD will know better.

Not sure of the price, but not a bad radio

Briefly: You require to be a Radio Dealer to program those radios and they are not supposed to sell you the software nor cables unless you are.

Be that as it is, we have a customer on one of our repeaters who asked whether he could use the Zartek 710 radios on our repeater, as he could get them at cost price directly from Zartek because he buys other gear from them. Zartek then sold him the radios (illegally, as he is not a dealer!) and we programmed them for the repeater.

The next day all three radios were brought back to us because he could not get range. Power fell down to less than 100 milliwatts on each.

All three radios had factory faults on them and were returned to Zartek, who undertook repairs/replacements and returned them to the customer. After this, the client was able to speak nearly some 4 - 5 kms from the repeater. After three frustrating weeks during which time his radios again packed up, at his request I then lent him three Kirisun PT4200 VHF portables to test, same repeater, same frequencies, same tones. The PT4200 managed just short of 30km operation.

End result: The Zarteks were returned for credit and the client paid a bit extra for the PT4200 radios that he now uses. Draw your own conclusions.

Caveat Emptor!

I've got one of these Kirisun's. You will never regret getting one of these. Did a test on range between my handheld and Kenwood mobile in a built up residential area. At about 5km I started to get some noise and lost comms at about 6 to 7km.
