Hella matador work lamp

Post by ismail »

Hi All, thinking of installing one of these, do they need to be run through a relay as with spotlights or can they just run directly off the battery?

The relay is a switch. So if you are going to install it permanently you can either buy a high amp switch and switch the possitive of the lamp or run the possitive of the lamp through a relay and switch the relay with a low amp switch. m2cw

Ismail, a critical part not to overlook is the lengh and thickness of your canle between the battery and the lamp :!: You will get major voltage drop if your cable is to long and to thin(mm)

Hi Ismail

The two ooms are right. My opinion is to go the low amp switch way - even though a high amp switch will do the trick, it will go hot and with time eventully fail, whereas in the case of a relay you can just replace it in half the time.

High amps mean bigger and thicker switch contacts which mean a bigger switch which may not fit in with the rest of the aura of your dash.

makes sense, I am awhere of the peripherals, makes better sense to connect via a relay then.
