Garmin Montana 650 Review

Post by Johannes van die See »

Hi All

I'm very interested in getting the new Garmin Montana 650 GPS for our planned Namibia trip during December.
Well for all the other future planned trips as well.

Have anyone on this forum bought this GPS and can we get some feedback please.
There have been a few reviews on this unit in the SA4x4 and online, and it sounds great, but I'd like to
get n forum members opinion.

This unit's price is +/- R5500 and the auto suction cup with charger and speaker is another R600 extra.

Thanks

Cheers

Soek jy 'n hand-held spesifiek?

I've got two Montana 600s on order for customers, they opted for the friction mount as well as the auto-kit. Garmin has no stock, apparently a world-wide shortage! Difference between the 600 and 650 is the camera, which although handy, is not really worth the extra dollars.

The Montana is a rugged, waterproof series and is regarded as the latter-day equivalent of the 276C. We shall see - as soon as stocks arrive. Oh yes, I have ordered one for me as well :)

Ohja nou onthou ek... ek het 'n Garmin Colorado http://www8.garmin.com/buzz/colorado/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; gehad....maar hy het die heel tyd gefries, blykbaar 'n design fout. Toe het ek 'n Oregon gekry http://shopping.yahoo.com/786066089-ore ... QHPqsbFt0A" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , nice unit met baie features maar het nie vir my gewerk nie....

Besides die goed 'float nie'.....

Kyk na die 3750 http://g.factoryoutletstore.com/details ... 3760T.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ek "drool" baie oor die Montana.

Net by se ek het nou die dag 'n Geocache saam met my neef gekry en hy het 'n I-Pad gebruik en sjoe.Dis nogal 'n "fancy" masjien.Ek dink as ek daai geld moet betaal sal ek die i-pad ook as 'n opsie oorweeg.

Eric, if I order the Montana 650 + Auto mount + friction mount from you what would the costs be and will I get it in time for my December Nam trip?

Thanks for the pointers manne!

Hallo all, we've added all Garmins to our shop but the Montana is in short fall everywhere, they recon anything from a month to two months, this was two weeks ago.
We meeting tomorrow with them to discuss this and will update you on stock around the country, or just watch the space ;-)

Thanks Eric, I've been watching a few video clips on YouTube and it seems like a very nice unit.
I'm definitely keen on getting one of these units, preferably the 650.

Hi Johannes,

Just a tip, why not place a pre-order on our web shop, then you on top of the list to receive from the first batch coming in? Two things to look at, there might be a price difference but not too big we will be the most cost effective ;-) and we can't guarantee stock if we do not have pre-orders? http://shop.adventures4christ.com/copy- ... toughness/

Does this mean I pay now and get the unit later?
I already registered on you web shop, only problem is I did not see the Auto mount nor the friction mount for the Montana and I would want those units as well, can you source it?

Mirrag almal,

First come first serve will be the thing here. We expecting first shipment mid to end November but pushing for earlier.
Recommendation, unless you want your GPS to have the camera, it is better on the budget to go for the 600, unless you know of hidden features none of us know about ;-)

Montana 600 without the maps, standard as per the web shop is expected to go for around R4,300 to R4,500 Incl VAT, we will only know once stock arrives but I am positive it will not be more than R4,400 ;-) We are taking pre-orders on this and will confirm pre-order with a R350 deposit once you have placed your pre-order.

Montana 650 same as above, expected to go for around R5,000 to R5,300.

Garmap Souther Africa - Topo Rec DVD around R980 when purchased with Montana's.

Hope this helps, we will update the shop tonight or tomorrow sometime with the various accessories but you welcome to place your pre-orders and ensure you get your device first ;-) The sooner we place our orders the higher up on the list we go to be serviced first ;-)

I'm going for the 600, no need for a camera and to save nearly R1k!

Goeie more Johannes,
