Confused by too much choice and too little knowledge
Needing some advise from those who have gone before.
I will be starting an overland trip through parts of Southern Africa in January next year - never done anything like this before.
What I am struggling with is the choice of SATNAV/GPS. I have not used one before and now want to buy one before the trip so that I can get used to all the functions.
Can't really get any advise locally as I live in the UK and outlets don't have any knowledge of the requirements for Africa - T4africa etc.
Any help appreciated
cheers

Re: Confused by too much choice and too little knowledge
Further investigation - seems an Oregon or a Montana could be what I am looking for. Don't want to have something mounted in my vehicle so a hand held device could be the right thing although it is possible to mount either of these units.

Either are good, but small, have alook at the Garmin 600/20, perhaps a better optionglucke wrote:Further investigation - seems an Oregon or a Montana could be what I am looking for. I have an Oregon 550 which works really well, but you are right Oooms the screen is small, have to do a lot of scrolling. But like the additional functions it has....

I was just getting frustrated with the 'find' alphabetic number entering....seemed the buttons on-screen were very small and often if not concentrating pushed the wrong letter....this put me off somewhat, however a nice unit in general :wink2:

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the advise - finally settled for the Garmin Montana 600. Now the fun begins, learning how to use the thing.

Re: Confused by too much choice and too little knowledge
Good luck with that. The manual I got with my Oregan is ridiculous and have been struggling with mine since I bought it. So hope you do better than me..... T4A is quite amazing though....
