12 Volt is the better / more economical route to go. You must just make sure all your equipment like lights ie LEDs are light on current.

A 12v Deep cycle battery....? 100A/h or larger, with a National Luna regulator or solar panel.

I’m going to hijack this tread a bit

I have just replaced my tow hitch electrics (the socket), as it was corroded and generally buggered.
There was a auxiliary wire in pin 2, but a thin wire that was never connected. So whilst redoing it i thought i might as well do it properly.
I have read a fair few posts here and on the community forum, but i would like to check with one of the ‘experts’. If i have the second battery in the back, can i simply wire it straight onto the positive terminal with a fuse (?amps?), as the auxiliary battery has the solenoid up front?
Thanks

Sorry Warren, can you clarify a few points as I am not familiar with your setup?

Do you have a secondary battery in the canopy of you van and one in the trailer?

Hey Mark, No trailer....yet,
but wanted to have it sorted as going to be towing a friends in a few months.

My second battery is in the canopy and runs off a simple setup, Cole Hersey Soleniod and 16mm cabels to the back.

If i did ever get a trailer, realistically i would go with thoes grey polarised coupler, but for now working with what i got.

Yes, you can with a 50/100Amp fuse

The solonoid / system will only see a 'larger' Amp battery, thus allowing you to run a 3rd battery in the trailer or have power to the trailer ie 12Volt

Warren, use two such fuses, one on each battery, located as closely to the batteries as possible. Use rubber grommets where the cable passes through any metal panelling.

Or 14.2 - 14.4V if it is a Calcium battery.
