VHF Radio Location on a SFA

Post by JohanM »

Hi Guys,

So I finally got myself a VHF Mobile unit. Now I need to here so opinios as to where to mount this unit as I prefer to keep it out of sight as much as possible and also easy access and to be able to see the display while seated.

1. Do I mount it below the rear view mirror in a custom made console?
2. Do i Mount it next to the radio, don't wanna put it on the dash board. I cannot mount it below the radio as Cassie en & Dawie (Lollie) as that has been taken up by my centre console with extra power points.

Guys please post some pics of where your mobile unit it located or give me some ideas.

Im thinking of making a new low profile roof console and mount the unit in there, but not sure yet about how practical it is when driving off road.

Johan, when I have the moola I'd want to fit it in a roof console for my IFS like Louis did, It always looks so sophisticated. m2c

the best place is a roof console, I have my vhf and 29mhz mounted along with my gps, the whole roof console runs from front to back, Zepplin on the forum made it for me, will dig out some pictures, but it also gives you extra storage space as I have to areas in the rear of the console, I tapped the power in from my rear dual battery, put in 2 x 6 Leds, one of which runs on the door/open closed button in door braces, lastly I brought a rearview mirror which sticks onto your screen just below the console so you dont lose this function, the whole works like a bomb....but it was all Zepplins work to be honest, I just passed tools and held things LOL....

Johan,
As jy bietjie soek sal jy Louis Fourie se roof console kry. Lyk of dit saam met die bakkie uit die fabriek gekom het. Ek sy radio sit daarin.
