CTEK 250s dual

Ek het raad nodig. Het gister vir my n 250s dual gekoop. My idee is om my yskas en battery op die agtersitplek in te sit (ek gaan die sitplek uit haal)
- watse dikte draad moet ek gebruik?
- wat is die maklk maneer om die bedradding te doen?

Weet jy wat die krag gebruik (in Ampere) van die yskas gaan wees? Of dalk die maak en model van die yskas, dan kan ons dit vasstel.

Meeste 2 battery stelsels gebruik die ouens ten minste 16mm2 kabel, want hoe dunner die kabel hoe meer krag verloor jy oor die afstand.

Daar is baie gesels al op die forum oor "dual battery systems".

16 sqmm is ok vir die ctek 250 dual, maar hy moet so naby as mootlik aan die 2e battery sit dat jy nie volts verlies het tot by die battery nie.

dis juis die voordeel van die Ctek :)

DUNNER drade drade, want nou is volt drop nie meer n issue nie. :) :)


20A laai stroom, so 4mm draad is okay .... maar ek sou steed 6 of 10mm draad gebruik.

JA, die Ctek moet so na as moontlik aan die 2de battery wees !!


Onthou om fuses in die draad te koppel wat die Ctek en die 1ste battery verbind - BY die eerste battery.

Baie dankie. Die ctek gaan in naby die tweede battery wees. Watse dikte moet ek van voor af gebruik? En dan die 10mm tussen die ctek en die tweede battery?

Volts verlies per meter kabel op 4 sq mm is 0.65v, 6 sqmm is 0.43v, 10 sqmm is 0.26v en 16 sqmm is 0.16v
Afhangend van die lengte moet die kabel dikker word, en tussen die ctek en die 2e battery wil jy nie eintlik volts verloor nie. Vanaf the start battery na die ctek is dit nie n groot issue nie.

Daar is drade en kabels wat deur die firewall na die cab van jou bakkie loop. Werk die kabels deur die gate en probeer om nie die rubber grommets seer te maak nie. :thumbup: :thumbup:

dont think of electricity as a "box full of wires", rather concentrate on ONE device at a time ...


Supply a Positive and Negative to the power box.

The negative goes to a "common buzz bar".

The positive is fed into a fuse box.


You have TWO types of devices -
1) direct connection - a black wire is taken from the negative buzz bar, and a red buzz bar is taken from the fuse box.

2) devices switched with a relay - as above the "power" is supplied from hte nagative and positive, now the positive is taken through the "switch" of the relay. To activate the relay a "signal" is required, for instance if you are using a relay for a set of air horns - take the standard positive signal from the hooter, run this through the fuse box (JIP, always use a fuse in a positive line), then through the relay's "coil", and to the neutral buzz bar.

just repeat these basic steps steps for each device, again and again .


In the front of Elders I have a small power box, this powers:
- the mini air horns
- the spot lights
- powers up the radios when the ignition is switched on
- the cole hersey relay for the second battery
- a hella power point

as you can see, at the end the box IS full of wires, but when you apply step 1 or 2 for each circuit then it is actually easy ...

TAKE YOUR TIME !! Ensure the connections are GOOD, insulate all connectors, excess wire makes for a very messy setup ....


in the back of Elders I have a much bigger power box, serving:
- battery charger (jip this is a handy way of connecting the charger)
- compressor
- fridge
- various extra power sockets, for the inverter etc ...

The fuse box in this distribution box is handy in that the supply positive is internally connceted to each fuse. It also has a connection point and buzz bar for the negative.

This photo shows a couple of "direct" connections, it also shows one relay connection.

the bit you dont see is the power taken after a fuse, then exiting the box, manual switch and then the LED lights for ELDERS.



The "wiring diagrams" were scribled on a post-it notes ..... long since discarded.

With electrical connections, take your time and make sure all connections are tight. As much as you can rather solder them as opposed to crimping, you'll be amazed how off-road vibrations can make loose connections or "hot-spots". Flimsy and thin wiring is a good starting point if you want a burnt truck. Just my 2c worth :thumbup:

Die 205 S dual charger was omtrent so R 2 800 tot laat 2012, na die prys verhoging kos dit nou so R 3 300 !!!

As jy rond shop kry jy dit vir R 3 100 ....


of as dit jou sal laat "goed voel" kan jy altyd R 3 900 gaan betaal by 4x4 Mega World, EN dan gaan hulle nog vir jou vertel jy kort n R 1 000 se regulator ook ......

Die "buzz bar" is bloot n "plek" waar jy AL die swart drade kan saam koppel.


In die DB box voor in ELDERS het ek net n lang bout gebruik - al die lugs is oor geskuif en dit is vas gebraai met n bout. In die agterste DB box sien jy die bout waar die dik swart draad vasgebout is - "onder" dit gaan die bout aan en hier word die res van die swart drade vasgebout.

here is a possible diagram.

It all depends on WHAT you want to power, and HOW you want to switch/control it.

"direct control" is by far the easiest to wire.

Switching the spot lights when using the brights, will require the use of a relay. Similarly you could use a positive signal from the ignition to activate a relay to automatically switch on the VHF radio, or the connect the second battery etc etc ...

Ek het bietjie raad nodig oor my CTEK D250S. Ek sit die volgende in engels, want dit ook wat ek aan CTEK self gestuur het, maar nog geen antwoord van hulle af ontvang nie. Hopelik kan een van die slim mense op die forum vir my raad gee ;-)

I have installed a dual battery system in my vehicle, with a 105ah deep cycle battery in the back. I am using a D250S Dual CTEK charger. However, on a recent trip I had trouble charging the service battery while having an Engel 40l fridge connected.
I have a direct 6mm² cable running from the Started battery to a Brad Harrison plug in the back. Voltage at starter battery (1) while engine running is 13.94V.
Voltage at the Brad Harrison plug (2)while engine running is 13.91V.
From the Brad Harrison plug there is a short wire to the + Alternator pole (A+) on the D250S. Power if not connected to D250S is 13.91V, but as soon as I connect it to the D250S and measure power on the + , it drops to 12.78V-12.84V.
Measuring power on the Service battery positive (B+) measures 12.93V-12.97

So dit verstaanbaar dat die battery nie gelaai kan kom as die krag op battery so laag is. As die yskas nie loop nie kan ek wel die battery gelaai kry, maar as yskas loop kan die laaier nie voorbly nie. Enige idee wat dit kan wees?

Of die ctek is foutief of iewers is n swak konneksie, of die draad is te lank?. Ctek neg moet op die battery neg gekoppel wees?
Die 6 sqmm kabbel se volt verlies kan dalk die probleem, as die kabbel te lank is, langer as 5m, en jy kry nie meer as 13.4V vir 5 sekondes by die ctek nie, sal hy nie laai nie? Ek sou n dikker draad try eers.

Hanno jy het n swak konneksie erens .... :(

6mm draad sal met gemak 50A (DC) hanteer. So jy moet niks meers as 0,1 of 0,2V drop sien wanneer die stelsel werk nie.


watter tipe konneksies het jy ? gekrimp (met n BEHOORLIKE krimper) ? Gesoldeer ? Persoonlik gebruik ek n behoorlike krimper EN dan soldeer ek dit ook nog.


moontlike oplossings:
- doen al die konneksies oor.
- check die 6m draad ...
- vervang die draad en dan doen jy in elk geval al die konneksies oor .....

Ek gaan alles weer oorkyk en seker maak.
Chris, my konneksie is gesoldeer, maar dit is dalk n goeie plan om alles weer oor te doen en te krimp.
Volgens die CTEK manual behoort 'n 6sqmm draad die 5m te kan doen, maar dit kan dalk wees dat n dikker draad ook sal werk. Miskien moet ek dit toets.
Ek gaan alles weer oorkyk, oormeet en oordoen, en dan kyk of dit 'n verskil maak.

Hanno nog een vraag - gebruik jy TWEE drade ? Een vir die Positief EN een vir die Negatief ??

Moenie die "body" gebruik as "negatief" nie - kans is net te groot vir n "dry joint" .. dan kan mens ook sulke wilde volt drops kry ...

Chris op die stadium gebruik ek die onderstel as negatief, maar het reeds 'n ekstra draad gekoop om die draad op die voorste battery se negatief te koppel, net ingeval :thumbup: Ek sal dit ook insit en laat weet!

die onderstel is ERG geverf om te keer teen roes - dit maak dit MOEILIK om n ordentlike konneksie te kry.


seker die probleem sal opgelos wees as jy n negatiewe draad aanlê. :)

Chris, ek het jou raad gevolg, en nuwe 8sqmm draad van voor af ingesit. Gebruik nou ook twee drade, een vir die positief en een na die negatief van die "starter" battery. Ek nog nie helemal klaar nie, ek kry maar min tyd om te werk aan dit. Ek het egter 'n voorlopige toets gedoen en dit lyk vir my asof die probleme nou uitgesorteer is.
