Guiness Record attempt : as many Toyota vehicles*Cancelled*

Post by HennieJ2 »

Guys,

On the 22nd of May, there is an attempt to get as many as possible Toyotas together. Se quote from Cruiser club. Not sure if this posted somewhere else:
The Toyota Owners Family Fun and Record Day kindly invites the Land Cruiser Club - Southern Africato be part of the Guinness World Record attempt taking place at the South African Air Force Museum – Swartkops Air Force Base 22 May 2010

All in the name of family fun and a new Guinness World record: These are the most important reasons for the biggest Toyota vehicle owners event in the history of South Africa to take place at the Swartkops Air Force base in Centurion in less than a month.

On Saturday 22 May Toyota owners will gather in their masses for the first annual Toyota owners Family Fun and Record Day hosted by the South African Air Force Museum. They invite all Toyota owners, no matter how old or what shape Toyota, as long as it is a Toyota, to take part in this fun filled day where a new Guinness Record will be attempted. Apart from the main record for the most individually owned Toyota vehicles at the same place at the same time, a few other record attempts will take place in the different vehicle categories. Participants can also look forward to some unique Toyota vehicles that will be showcased as well as a number of challenges involving Toyotas.

This day however is not only about the vehicles, but also about the vehicle owners and their families. There will be lots of entertainment on the day for both young and old. The impressive South African Air Force Museum will also be open for participants and their families to visit for free. Other entertainment includes a children specific play area, go-karts, hangers where people can relax and watch rugby and Exhibitors.

Participants will only have to pay R100 per vehicle while entry per person is free. Entry fee includes a DVD of the Record day and a percentage of the money will go towards a charity organisation.

To register and for payment details, please visit http://www.toyotarecordday.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or to be one of the exhibitors, please contact: 082 891 0833 or 083 688 7431.

THIS EVENT IS SUPPORTED BY TOYOTA SOUTH AFRICA BUT NOT A TOYOTA SOUTH AFRICA INITIATIVE

Do you mean TSA, Hennie? ... Ja, then it would be more likely to come together. As I understand, they were already sponsoring this event. If they were to sponsor the venue and advertising of the event with free entrance for all participants, there would surely be a much greater response. Besides the immediate exposure that they would enjoy, TSA could use footage from the event for future advertising campaigns, so for them it wouldn't be a fruitless exercise. They could also invite businesses to have stalls at a nominal amount per stall where any related automotive goodies could be displayed / sold like a mini expo as well as of course the inevitable food stalls to cater for those that are thirsty or need to fill a gap. The funds generated from the stall hire could go to offset the venue cost. Tsa wouldn't lose out by undertaking something like this.

Slegte nuus/Bad newsI received an email from Dandre this evening which says that due to lack of registrations they decided to cancel the event.

Jaco, yes it is my post on the LCCSA club and my connection there has confirmed it is indeed cancelled.

Andy, I think I will speak to out local stealership's principal and maybe Marc can speak to Honeydew - between the two off them and then with support from the Hilux club and the LCCSA, maybe we can arrange it our selves - need to look at a suitable date in the latter part of the year, since the 1st part has seen it's ......

Sien ook Dandre se post by

As julle dit self begin reel moet ons dalk weer vir Dandre hulle betrek aangesien hulle reeds 'n klompie mense het en hulle kan weer meer die plakar end van die mark betrek.

You will need some media coverage to create awareness. If you 'go it alone' (without TSA), between the clubs and dealers you might get the local rag up there to run an 'interest' story. I still think TSA involvement would be the answer. M2CW.

Agree with Andy
There was nothing wrong with the previous idea, the only problem was that we only heard about it two weeks prior to the event. So I think if one plans this well in advance and you get Toyota Zone magazine to also give it good publicity plus TSA and some of the 4x4 magazines then it might work very well.

If you do not get TSA, another option might be a large group like McCarthy, Halfway Toyota or Rand Stadium Toyota.

And maybe like the Ford Parade guys, start the advertising for the event about 3 months in advance.
