Namibia - Etosha 15 December - 31st December 2012

Post by Donkey »

13 Namibia
Etosha 15 December 2012 Tour
31 December 2012

The very last event for this year is the Namibia tour, this came up also yesterday at Rhino Park. In the name of getting ready may we please start to discuss this especially for us who have never been and planning to go.

1. What legal documents to prepare, I know of car papers, passport, anything else? I suppose insurance letter/permission but I'm with AgriSA so I guess no stress there?

2. Stickers on the car, the ZA, yellow triangle on blue square backround, red at the rear and white/silver ones on the front?

3. Places we'd be camping at or visiting or going through

4. weather that time of the year

5. what sort of budget should I be working on? Fuel, etc.

6. Vaccinations?

7. What else have I left out?

:bye:

The very last event for this year is the Namibia tour, this came up also yesterday at Rhino Park. In the name of getting ready may we please start to discuss this especially for us who have never been and planning to go.

1. What legal documents to prepare, I know of car papers, passport, anything else? I suppose insurance letter/permission but I'm with AgriSA so I guess no stress there? Yes, and a letter from the bank if still financed.

2. Stickers on the car, the ZA, yellow triangle on blue square backround, red at the rear and white/silver ones on the front? Don't think it's a requirement in Nam, but always good to have. Get it from an AA shop about R10.00 per metre.

3. Places we'd be camping at or visiting or going through That depends on your route, which border post you are going to enter and exit?

4. weather that time of the year I would say about 28 - 32/34 deg with a strong possibility of rain. Evenings can be cool!

5. what sort of budget should I be working on? Fuel, etc. Food you eat anyway, perhaps you will drink extra liquid.....? Are you camping / lodging???

6. Vaccinations? None

7. What else have I left out? The proposed route
There are quite a few nice places around that area, like Kaudom, Ruacana falls, Mahango in Caprivi

I would say let the people come together at Windhoek to compensate for the different border entry points in Namibie and work a route out from there that will suite the whole crowd.

Ahaa hitte! Hitte oor Desember!

Im not too fussed about dates, just need enough time to get my leave booked. other than that, I have never travelled on new years for obvious reasons, but I am easy,

things I could suggest, maybe to obvious to mention;
* everyone caters for themselves, food, drink.....
* radios will be handy if everyone could arrange to get, buy or borrow
* whole route must be pre planned and agreed on
* take it easy, its an overlanding trip and not a rally
* allergies and chronic medicines to be descussed within the group
* from Marks suggested route we will be crossing throug malaria areas
* dare I say reliability of the cars?

I grew up in Tsumeb. Day temp in dec can easely reach 45 deg in the shade. With day temps like that anything lower without sunshine feels cool. I have seen that chickens drop down due to the heat. It is so hot, the dog is chasing the cat and both are lying down. :laugh2:

Thanks Wayne from now till then I'll be sorting out any issues on my truck  , as a point of departure maybe lets agree on dates so that we can book off in time.

1.May I suggest 15 Dec to 29 Dec so that those that want to spend New Years Eve this side may be able to, I know I'm one of them.

2.I don't have issues with the proposed route.

3. If by the time we go, I do not have a radio - though I'm planning on installing one, will the club be prepared to rent out a portable unit?

Radio is more important than a fridge imho especially when travelling in a convoy  Been there done that....never again..... :wink2:

Yes, there are radio's for rent, handhelds sponsored by Eric - Repcom for such occasions I have x4 with me, if need be :!:
