Dual Battery

Post by george »

Hi guys

My boet recently got a Prado.
He wants to add a dual battery system, but do not want to "hard wire" the system.
Apparently there is a power socket in the back. Would you be able to connect an inverter and run a charger to charge the battery.I saw in one of the magazines that they have a powerpack that works on that principal but they do not use a big capacity battery. Ideally he would like to use a 80amp-100amp battery.
Have anybody done this yet and will this work :?:
He is not very mechanically minded so if this can be done he would like to use someone that can build this for him and he can just "plug and play". i nkow there is some clever okes in Klerkies that can do this kind of work
His in laws stay there so he visits quit a lot.

George, this will kill his primary battery in no time and not a good idea :!:

There are units available that you plug into the lighter, will just have to find it here for you seen somewhere on the Forum

You dont have to cut into the system, just run two cables with a fuse to from the front battery to where the second battery is and use one of these Nasional luna battery boxes.

The 12v power take-off point in the rear of the Prado might be suitable for running fridges but not for running a large inverter A normal MSW inverter does not work well with a charger in any case, efficiencies are very low.

That is n nice idea, but the charger is not strong enouth to keep the battery charged while using the frige.
