2nd hand Prado - advice?

Post by HennieO »

Looking at a second hand Prado at Automark in Bellville.

2005 4.0 V6 VX A/T
145 000kms

Vehicle is clean and looks to be in great nick. I knew I should not take it for a test drive, 'cause now I want it.............

On the floor for R270 000, they are willing to give it to me for R260 000 on the road. And I will have to buy a trailer................

Is the price right? They took the nudge bar off, because there is a dent in it, but I could not detect any damage to the bumper or front of the vehicle? Should this worry me?

Can you suggest other places to look for 2nd hand Prado's (except for Gumtree).

Thanks for the input, guys.

Not sure but I think R270 000 is a bit much, but could be wrong. I'm also looking for a Prado now since my d/cab will be sold on Saturday. I've seen one for R170 000, '04 model with 180 000km's.

Open the bonnet and look carefully at the inner fenders & firewall for any signs of cracks. The 120 Prados are prone to this if driven on gravel roads and if fitted with a steel bull bar.

Price is a little high, just don't buy the diesel, i like the 1KZ, but they are to weak to pull the Prado with the Auto box.
If you find one, i'll check it over.

Hennie

that price seems about 20-30k too high, a year ago I bought a 2004 with 135000kms for 220k from an Automark Dealer. At that time the 2005 Prados were going for around 240-260k.

BUT at the end of the day you wont be sorry, it's a beautiful vehicle and at that mileage it's still "new".

Just make sure that you've got a large Garage card - the fuel tanks are 180litres. :surrender:

Thanks Allan, will definately not buy before you have checked it out! I am not considering the diesel it will be the 4.0 V6 petrol.

Yes I know, I have a 2.7 now with 150l tank in total, so my system is sort of immune against the shock at the pumps
