Velocity Raptor AT's

Post by Dingo »

Does anyone have any comments - good or bad - on these tyres.

I'm going to need to replace my tyres on my Prado (2004) shortly. BFG's are just way toooooo heavy for the pocket and Tiger Wheel & Tyre have the Velocity's on special @ R1600,00 per tyre.

Would anyone fit the velocity's to a Prado?????

Also - how long can tyres be stored for, is there any special storage conditions.

I'm thinking of buying the tyres now - as they are on special - and putting them in the ZoZo for when I need them.

Hi Dingo

I have a 2007 Prado and fitted the Raptors some 15 months ago. Very happy with the tyres. Rides soft and seems like one will get proper milage our of them. Hope it helps.

Thx Botterbul

What sort of milage are you expecting from them??

I know BFG's will give around 80' kms. One also needs to consider the milage versus the cost.

Have you done much gravel / off road driving on them? At this stage I'll probably do 70% tar and 30% gravel.

Only done about 20 000 km, mostly tar and a bit of sand riding in Moz. Can't say that they look any worst than the day I fitted. The boys at Tiger Wheel recons more than 100 000km on these's tyres without a problem.

Tyres have a five year lifespan, there after you wont get get any joy from any dealer, no matter how little tread has been used. :surrender: :surrender: :surrender:

Thanx Haboob, not so worried about the dealers, more worried about what the best way is to store the tyres before I actually need them.

At R1600,00 tyre right now ( which is 2 for the price of 1 BFG ), I'd rather try and buy now as one doesnt know what the price will be in a couple of months.

I've still got about 40' kms on my BFG

@ Dingo......its a pity you guys there up North seems to pay waaaay much more for your BF's than here in the Cape.... I am myself looking for new tyres for my 3000D D/C, and best price so-far in W-cape on BF's = HiQ Porterville @ R2040, which I think is reasonably good?!

It's crazy the pricing of tyres.

Got official quotes:

TWT, Velocity's = R1 400 per tyre, Total of R7 980 for 5 tyres

Autosport, BFG's = R2 830 per tyre, Total of R12 902 for 4 tyres.
Autosport, Goodyear's = R2 660 per tyre, Total R12 141 for 4 tyres.

The sums speak for themselves.

The special on Velocity's at TWT ends today.

You know, you get Maxxis tyres for not much more than those Velocity tyres, and I'm thinking it's worth the extra bucks

Got quoted R1650 per tyre by Mufasa tyres for the Maxxis AT700 31 x 10.5 x 15
Nothing is impossible - it just costs more

Why not try a yokohama. Proven technology. Excellent reputation. Middle of the road pricing.
