Unichip 4.0V6 Prado good or bad ??

Post by MOFASA »

Hi Hiluxers

Have any of you fitted a Unichip to a van?
Are they good?
Do they last?
Was the performance and fuel economy better?

I am looking into doing it on my Prado for this reason:
It has a free flow exhaust, and no cats.
So the Toyota dealers tell me the engine management light is on due to the sensors that are supposed to be 1 each side of the cats not working due to no cats....
Now I have been told that a Unichip will sort that problem out.
The other problem is the other warning lights are on due to the engine management light being on.
So the traction controll and anti skid systems do not work and this is all due to the engine management system picking up a problem with the sensors in the exhaust....

So not I have 2 choices....
Fit a new STANDARD exhaust :naah:
Fit a Unichip.....

What are your thoughts on this.....

You also have the choice of fitting in MINI Cats aswell. They cost around R650 each. That fools the computer into thinking that the cats are still in.

Just a question, Do you have proof that the reason your other electronics are not working due to the engine light being on? I honestly don't believe that the cats can affect any other system on the vehicle.

Been told by the electrical guy at Toyota thats if the engin management picks up a problem and its not sorted the it starts to deactivate other systems to make you get the problem sorted out...
He had a Prado in there a few months back with the same problem and it was sorted out with a unichip fitment.....
He told me the mini cats work for a while but if you on a LOOOONG run it picks up problems and then reverts back to the engin management light coming on again...... then you need to have it reset again.....
Dont want to have to reset it everytime i have driven FAR....

Shweet, but what I do know is it'll give you better fuel economy while maintaining optimal performance, in my books well worth it
