Niel I read once in a Toyota Promotional Article in a motoring magazine that the name Hi-Lux as it was first written was made up as follows.... Hi - (Meant for elevated, higher off the ground) & Lux - being a luxury driving experience when it was launched against the competitors.

Thus it became Hilux, and we all are enjoying our elevated luxury driving experience.
