Prado 3.4 V6

Post by Stefan Swarts »

Hey there

I have read a lot about the prado`s on this forum, tx for the great info . I am looking at buying a prado 90.

Is it safe to buy a 3.4 V6 with 250000-300000km on teh clock? As far as I can read on this forum those V6 's were made to do lots of km.

What about the autobox, can they handle the high km?

It is either a 3.4 V6 Vx Prado or a Hilux 2.7 4x4 D/C. I think they would do more or less the same on fuel consumption. Which one would you suggest?

Hi Stefan,

Both are excellent vehicles, difficult choice! The mileage is not a factor but the Prado V6 should have the cambelt replaced at around 300,000km.

In a nutshell...

Prado:
P1020071.JPG
More comfortable
More power
Much more luxurious
Heated seats
Electric seats
Smoother ride
Auto Gearbox (very smooth)
Some models fitted with rear diff-lock, some with Limited Slip diff, others plain (depending on model)
Some models have 2nd Petrol tank as standard
Rear seats fold flat to increase load area

Hilux 2700i IFS
Hilux, 2.7i 009_1.jpg
Larger load area
Manual Gearbox
5th Gear *might* require attention
Raider models with rear diff-lock

Both vehicles average some 6.5 - 7.5km/litre average, although I have achieved up to 8.3km/l with the 2700.

Both very capable off-road. Which one would I choose? Difficult to say - see my signature ;)

Hey

I think I should go for the prado, already have a xtra cub hilux which I use for work everyday. This will be a family car as my first child is on the way. I saw a 2003 Prado 3.4 V6VX with 246000km. Dunno if this model has got the extra tank and or difflock? It comes with FSH.

Some might know by now that I like buying and selling these Toys. I've had a 2000 dc 2.7 and currently have a 1998 3.4 Prado with 270000km on the clock. If I had to... It will be the Prado any day.
To Buy and sell a vehicle is my hobby
Make a deal that no one else thought possible is my aim
