Meet BONES

Post by the BuTch3R »

So, it's been a rough 707 days (but who's counting, anyway) since my hilux, my pride and joy was stolen from a lonely parking lot in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, never to be seen again. We had been through such a lot in our 3 brief years together...including a 3rd place in the Bridgestone Night Challenge, no less than 6 Be-a Blessing outings with underprivileged kids, leading the Hilux4x4 Team pack at the AAWDC interclub fun day, and so much more... there was just no way on earth that anything would come close to replacing it.... but my new Toy does help numb the pain a bit.

After a few months worth of analysis-paralysis I decided to hunt for a Prado 120. This was a vehicle I'd always liked the look of and it certainly has the respect of many off-roaders worldwide (Oz in particular). I ignored my head and went with my heart, opting for the 4.0 V6. I had to really look hard to find one in good condition but still within my price range. I missed a few bargains along the way but finally found a beautiful one-owner vehicle with full service history, agents only. He was almost in tears as I drove the van out of his yard and the more I drive it, the more I understand why.

This is definitely a keeper, a vehicle I will surely be building up a relationship with. In fact, so much so that I've already given it a name...."BONES".

No, it won't replace my Hilux... but it comes damn close :yahoo:

Still a little "bare bones", but I have a few ideas for mods. Won't be going overboard though. He's still too refined for that. But I definitely want to give him a little more attitude (and be able to find him easier in a full shopping centre parking lot)

Hahaha. I expected that response somewhere along the line...

Fully agree, black would really look mean. Black rims. 33"muds, etc.
However, that can come later.

For now I'd like to keep it neat, but still have it stand out. It's not a challenge vehicle after all.

I must admit I'm leaning towards white.... maybe a snorkel too (in black obviously). A nice set of spots, and take it from there...

Later on, when the look wears off, I may wanna go somewhere in this direction....
