Fuel Tank Hose Replacement

Post by the BuTch3R »

Need some advice from the slim okes.

While fuelling the Prado on the weekend I noticed some fuel running out from underneath the tank. Upon closer inspection I found that the short hose between the main and the aux tank has perished and cracked.

I managed to trace the part which I believe to be the one in the pic below (will confirm with the stealers).

To replace this appears to be a simple DIY job.... clamps off, hose out, new hose in, clamps on. Just wanted to hear whether there are any special filters, seals, etc that I should be aware of.

Has anyone done this before?

Hi Shaun

Assume this is on the Prado 120 - I replaced mine about a month ago and got the new part from Toyota, was REALLY surprised as it cost less than R400.

No special filters, seals, etc - just loosen the claps and remove. For some unknown reason the spare part only comes with one of the claps, so you'll need to use the old one.

Suggest that you maybe spray some Q20 or the likes on the old hose first just to try and loosen the pipe a bit from the metal pipe.

it's a 5min / 2 beer job :D: :D:

Got the new part installed. Easy job, even by my standards...

Attached a pic of the worn part. If you look carefully you'll see a hairline crack on the hose where the fuel was spilling out of....

Yup, I zoomed in to the pic and can just make out the hairline crack you speak of.

Surely a crack of that nature couldn't have lost too much fuel?
