Hi all

I am looking at 4x4 courses close to JHB and have found one run by SA Adventure - http://www.saadventure.co.za/website/4x ... dates.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they are out at Hennops.

they do a 1-on-1/personalised course which can be tailored to what you need to know (eg. if you dont have a winch) for R1950 which covers both the driver & co-driver. Seems quite a low price.

Does anyone know if they are good - anyone been with them? Want to make sure I am going with a reputable one

Thanks

Brett, any training is good training.

It all depends on what you want to achieve with 4x4 training. If you are interested in getting a formal qualification, then there in one question you must ask of the training provider is if they are accredited with TETA (Transport Education Training Authority) training according to the SAQA approved unit standards for 4x4 and off-road driving. Only if this answer is yes, does the service provider provide formal accredited training, and the certificate issued is a Certificate of Competence, and learners receive credits at the specified level on the National Learner Record Database.

If the answer is no, then the service provider is giving informal training, and the certificate presented is purely a Certificate of Attendance, without any credits being registered for the learner. Although informal training service providers can train according to the approved unit standards, their lack of accreditation with TETA prevents them from submitting the learner's outcomes to the relevant bodies to award the learner with learning credits on the NLRD.

If you are prepared to spend a substantial amount of money on 4x4 driver training, it would be a good idea to consider formal training before spending your hard earned money on something you might just have to do over again. With formal training the unit standard does not require you to redo your training every now and then. This would only happen if the unit standard is ammended or updated, and in such cases the retraining will only be for the aspects of the unit standard that were ammended and not the entire unit standard.
