I have a Crest Rider G3, beautiful boat - doubt I will ever sell it!

Does the factory still exist, Andy?

I really don't know Eric. Know that they used to do a lot of canopies as well. IIRC they were in PE with outlets or agencies nationwide.

I had a SS bow-rail made up for mine which made it easier to get onto the fore deck. Had a small manual hawser on the point of the bow so that I could drop anchor off the front while still at the controls - (off the front kept the bow in the wind). Also has a SS ski bar that almost looked like a rollbar over the motors (2x 50hp Merc's) but the bar served more as a rest for fishing rods than for skiing.

Was sad to see it go.

2x 50HP on that small boat!!

I bet you never had problems getting it to plane hehehe

I had a 40HP Mariner without power trim and tilt.

Pain in the ass on places like Gourits where the water gets shallow vast and you have 3 other people crowding the small space on the deck.

Friend of mine has the same boat but with a 50HP Mariner with power Trim and Tilt. Works great and has enough power!

Yes, relatively small and light - about 4 metres or so - can't remember if it was 16ft or 18ft. Either way, I could launch and recover it alone and it wasn't even a break-neck trailer - had to completely submerge it though, pushed in my hand and pulled out wit a tow-rope (never once had to put a vehicle in the water, not even the tyres).

Nonetheless it had enough buoyancy in the back to carry those 2 long-shaft motors fairly comfortably. Initially I had only one motor but with a heavy skier (my bil was 6ft 3in & 110kg) it would really battle to get up on the plane. Two smaller motors would definitely have been more suitable, but I had a spare Merc 50 that I rebuilt, so I just put it on as well. The transom seemed to be fine with it but I later reinforced it just to be safe. Without a skier it was already planing within the first 2 metres of take-off but top speed was only a tiny fraction faster than with one motor. When fishing or trolling I would just lift one out of the water and use just the other. Electric start and power-trim definitely made life easier.

Originally the boat had a cable and pulley steering but I swapped that out for a "ride-glide" push - pull type .... much better.

I don't do the ski thing :cooldude: Build for comfort not speed :celebrate:

That friend of mine has a "water snake" battery operated motor with his 50HP Mariner.
Works perfectly.
When you drift while fishing you just lift you motor and use the snake to push or pull you back into place.

Dankie Tertuis. Dit klink na 'n plan. Het nie gedink om dit self te doen nie. Dankie Image
