Post Camil Suspension (KZTE)
Hi Guys,
I have taken my Camil shocks off my KZTE. I had the car on a shock tester in Cresta (Jody's) and the front ones came out as 65% efficient. The rear ones came out poor at about 20%, but my leaf springs were flat. So if anyone is interested, PM me and we can chat about price.

Thanks

Warren how do they test a vehicle's shocks if it has leafs on the rear? I was always told it can't be done - at least not with the stuff they stick on the car and then bounce the car and take a reading from that.

I got the same reply from quite a few shops here in Cape Town, even with the Colt bakkie I owned before.

Yip, it was just a big machine that shakes the car and then a fancy computer spits out the reading. No cost, just done as a matter of interest.

I've been in contact with Piet at Camil and they sell replacement shocks. But then of course you need the already in place Camil coils to work with them.

Warren

Spoke to Johan at 1st Alignment (Cape Town), and he agreed with me that on vehicles with leaf springs, one can't use any type of machine to test the effectiveness of the shocks, because the rear leaf springs dampen the rebound of the shocks, and thus make the measurements useless. he reckons that a set of shocks that have done about 80k kms, have had a good innings and can be replaced, especially if it included a good share of 4x4 and gravelroad driving or towing.
