The Fortuner is taking shape
AS promised before, some pics of the Fortuner; most of which taken in the Central Kalahari last week. Next project, front locker and air suspension in the back before the end of this month ... then it is just purrrrrfect.

Looking good!
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

265 x 16 x 75 profile, standard is 70 profile. Slightly too big, had to remove the front mudflaps, now not catching even under articulation. Would however not work with standard bumper but fine with steel bumper.

Re: The Fortuner is taking shape
I had them on mine with the standard bumper and without a lift. Just adjust the castor to move the wheels a bit more forward in the arches.Rockspider wrote:265 x 16 x 75 profile, standard is 70 profile. Re: The Fortuner is taking shape
Fascinating blog about the lift, thank you.
There is some serious food for thought. Mine is a standard OME lift, total lift was about 70mm.
I have not experienced any swaying, as a matter of fact, I find the Tuner to be MUCH more stable now with the OME's. But then ... the only long trip I have done so far with the new suspension was when the vehicle was loaded and the lift effectively cancelled out.
Normal driving, like I said, it feels MUCH better than standard but then it has a wider track now , stiffer springs, better dampening in the shocks and the 3 ply sidewalls of the Mickey Thompsons probably also helps.
I will certainly follow that link and check it out for myself. The solution sounds fairly simple though. I am surprised that the wheel alignment company did not mention anything about a misalignment.
I am a bit confused and will make some work of it.

Re: The Fortuner is taking shape
Take a tape and measure it - with a 70mm lift your axle will be more or less 11mm to the right of the vehicle. Measure from the rim to the chassis. I am ordering brackets to drop the Panhardt rod and correct this next week.Rockspider wrote: I will certainly follow that link and check it out for myself. The solution sounds fairly simple though. The reason why the wheel alignment company didn't say anything is because nothing is adjustable at the rear of the Fortuners' suspension! There is nothing they can do about it.

Re: The Fortuner is taking shape
I can happily report that the Fortuner project is done! Front locker is in and it performs like crazy!! Air suspension is in and levels the ass very nicely.
The drawer system and the rest of the packing system is in and works really well.
All ready .. and nowhere to go!!!! Its called leave of absence deficiency!
But, we are going to Lesotho over the long weekend and to Mozambique for the Rock festival in september. Counting the sleeps.

Re: The Fortuner is taking shape
A Fortuner with front lockers as well should be nearly unstoppable.
After all, it is riding on a Hilux chassis. And is in principle a SWB Hilux with full time 4WD.
