Decisions Decisions...Which Rims...
Hi Guys,
I currently have my Hankook all Terrains on but want to put my Mickey Thompson muds on but only have one set of rims, hence my decision to spoil myself with a new set of rims!
Both sets are 31x10.5x15...
I currently have 7J steel rims...but i want 8J.
Which one of these would look the best...
I have looked at A-Line too but I cant find 8J in 15" only 16"...

Re: Decisions Decisions...Which Rims...
I don't know, depends on your taste. I'm sure that if you looked around a bit more you should be able to get some better looking rims than those .... neither are really striking for me and although the black ones might look better, the silver ones look sturdier .... just my opinion. Hmmm .... Might be a tough choice.
Riaan, you posted too quickly for me, but, ja that's more how I would feel about it.

Both would look good against a white bakkie.

Re: Decisions Decisions...Which Rims...
Here's another option ... your existing rims aren't too bad ..... just have them chromed (silver) or black chrome or even just spray them. Then you can take the moola that you've saved and get a nice integrated bumper ... front and back. That'll alter the appearance of the vehicle a lot as well as improve approach and departure angles ... benefits all round. Then if at a later stage you really want mags .... well Xmas next year is around the corner!
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

If I were in the market for new rims, I'd be looking for something with beadlockers... take a look at these...
Ok these are probably really expensive, so how about having your rims cleaned up, resprayed and bead lockers fitted??

Re: Decisions Decisions...Which Rims...
Yes, beadlockers are the way to go.
But one important thing, we all like alloy rims, myself included, but most of these new spiffy Taiwan alloys avalable on the market today, are not up to serious off-roading. I have heard of some that crack and if they hit a rock, they break. Pretty dangerous stuff, should that rim crack on a trail without you knowing it, and fall apart on the highway on your way home afterwards...

Re: Decisions Decisions...Which Rims...
You have the bead-lockers made up. Ask Hoppy where you can have this done.
Some interesting opinions from the experts:
I had a long chat with Johann Viljoen (Tyre) about 7J vs 8J vs 10J rims, as well as alloys vs steel rims. And I see he answered a tyre related question in this month's SA4x4 ad well. According to Mnr Tyre the narrower the rim the better in deflated conditions. This is because of the way the tyre sits on the rim, and with the narrower rim, the chances of debeading a tyre are much less than with a wider rim. In other words you can deflate more on a 7J than and 8J with less risk. If you take 7J rims to make bead lockers you end up with a 7.5J rim, with the bead clamped along the outward facing side of the rim.
Personally I am using everything he doesn't recommend 10J alloys, but my 8J beadlockers are on their way.

Thys
as hy daai tekkies so uit trek.
Help tog asb.

Re: Decisions Decisions...Which Rims...
