Extreme Newbie got a Bakkie!!!

Hi guys

SORRY, couldn't help it! I know you all said to take my time, but this bakkie was CLEAN with a capital K Also mechanically, took my mechanic friend with to take a look and the only faults he could find was the rear shackel bushes and the sump gasket . . .

I attached some pics. :)

Now, if you guys thought I was bad before with all my questions, then you should stay away from my posts now!!! Got 15K left from the C2, and want to get a couple of thing . . . GPS, radio, tonneau cover, wheel pump, pressure gage etc etc etc . . . What else do I need???

First question, GPS, Nuvi 500 or Oregon 550? Went to safari center to find out, but the guy there was USELESS . . .

Second question, Radio, which type do I want? Handheld, VHF/FM or 29M? When my one friend bought his landrover last year, he got one of those VHF radios with, but is currently not working and not sure how to get it working . . . again, went to safari center to find out, but the guy there was useless . . .

Next question, is there anything specific to look for/at when getting a wheel pump? (Is that what you call it? Ek praat nou van n wiel pomp )

And last for now, anyone know a good place where I can get a tonneau cover?

Oh, before I forget, want to take the bakkie for real test drive at some trail next weekend (Landy also comming with), suggestions please as I don't know of anywhere yet . . .

Very nice!!!!

Get yourself one of these 160L/min compressors. They work like a charm. When fitting a radio I would strongly advise on VHF. This seems to become the standard now. It is not really necessary to have a mobile unit (mounted in the bakkie) as the handhelds are just as capable. But that said, the mobile unit is most definitely superior to the handheld

Be casreful on your first outing, rather do things over than overdoing it. A good place to start would either be Atlantis Dunes, or 2 Oceans between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. And if you are up to it, you can always join us on the Tierkloof outing on 12 Feb..

Re compressors: I have had a few of the 'double-headed' compressors and 'single-headed' the one's OW sell.

To date I have not found a better value, capable compressor that the TMax,

4x4 Mega sells them for around R1200.00! I tested this comp and deflated a tyre x16 times from 0.8bar to 2.6 bar. Unit hardly get hot and is very fast about 25 seconds....I'm impressed

My bakkie is like a lucky packet!

First I find 3 power connectors/plugs already in the back. A "car lighter" one, one that is simmilar but smaller, and a square white one (not sure what it is called) . . .

Then, after spending my saturday morning driving around, looking for things like GPS and an air compressor, I find a compressor already installed under the bonet! JUST IN TIME BEFORE I BOUGHT ONE!!!!

And now lastly, I notice two tanks below my bakkie. Together they are more than 100L. Is that standard, or was it done like that afterwands? The two tanks look pretty much the same . . .

the 'similar one' is probably Hella & the square white on e is Brad Harrison.

Extra tank not standard, not sure if the '89 had 65l tank or 80l, probably the former. Previous owner more than likely added anther 65l tank. One also gets the coin type long range tank that fits above the spare wheel.

No. Both tanks are side by side, the same size and the same shape . . . look the same . . . Together more than 100L . . .
