Re: My New Project
If you sell it for spares the diffs alone are worth more than what you paid for the complete vehicle (if they are still working)
I think for R7500 it is not too bad
A friend of mine also bought a vrot cab a while ago, he cut out the vrot patches and welded in new metal.

Great buy!
Get that motor running at peak performance
Remove canopy and loadbin
Cut back the chassis rails to the shackles
Evenly cut the rust away around the wheel front arches to make room for bigger tyres at the same time
Fit 33's
Cut off the roof and build a roll cage
Remove the doors and replace with rails or cargo netting.
....... and you got yourself a challenge vehicle!

Re: My New Project
I've got a good floor & firewall for you, the rest you'll have to patch up.
i bought one in even worse condition, we shortened the chassis to 100 inch (the ideal crawlwer length) and the loadbed is the same length as a double cab, LUXTER was born, we do the challenge series with it.
if you send me your mail adres, i can send you some pics and advice

Re: My New Project
Thanks Allen, but we were extremely lucky last week when we
found a guy in NELSPRUIT that has just sold his workshop and he had
bought exactly the same model hilux a few years ago and built hes truck
but put on a newer cab and body.
So we went and had a look and he sold us the complete body, cab etc
with all the doors, bonnet wiring lights dashboard etc. etc.........
All the parts have been panelbeated and ready for sprayng!!!!!
It cost us R2000. WHAT GOOD FORTUNE.
Im posting some more pics of our progress.
We just have one problem at the moment and that is to find a
bellhousing that fits the four speed toyota gearbox to the ford v6 enjin.
If enybody can help with a second hand one it will be greatly appriciated.
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK????????

Ive already redone the whole chassie with a small sandblaster and alot of time.
Painted everything with primer and 2k black. Fixed all the brakes and seals.
Put in new brake hoses and pipes. redone the springs and lifted the shackles.
redone the ford motor and now im slowly reassemblying everything.
Not bad for someone thats never done this before!!!!!!

Re: My New Project
The mounting rubbers for the body looks very bad as you can see. What do you suggest is the best way to make new ones or can you buy them?Id like to lift the body slightly but how much can one go?
I also need to know how far the load bin needs to go past the chassie at the back because as you can see ive shortened the chassie just before the spring mounting.
The last question is that ive lifted the chassie by about 100mm and the tortion bar(I THINK YOU CALL IT THAT) doesnt fit anymore. Its about 20mm to short.
spoken to the guy that did my spring and he insists that it should still fit but ive tried every possible way to get it in. Do i need to modify it to make it adjustible or can you buy them?
Thanks guys i hope someone can help me!!!!!!!!

Re: My New Project
No sure you will still be able to get those rubbers for the body mounts .... you could use some old rubber conveyor belting (8 or 10mm gauge would be better) and cut new ones ... you might have to put in more than one to get to the desired thickness. When you speak of a torsion bar I assume that you are talking about the Torque rod ... the one that goes from the top of the front diff to the chassis. You could lengthen it a little, otherwise just put a jack under the pinion housing of the diff and jack it so that the axle 'wraps' a little and you'll be able to get it in. The only issue there is that be doing so you might be putting a little too much strain on it and it might break or break the mounting at the diff somewhere down the line. The other issue is that you will be altering the desired camber which is not adjustable (pre-set) and it might result in over positive steer with a tendency to 'dive' into corners when turning.
Best would be to lengthen it a little.
