GR8 sfa in the making

Post by ink »

In 2012 I was retrenched and as an previous Nissan patrol owner (2012 3.0Di gl) I needed a 4x4 that have the same off road ability, hence I bouged an 1996 sfa. Since then I started to modify this vehicle for my liking. First was to put the 33x12.5x15 .bf's with 10j rims that was on my patrol on to the hilux. Now the problems started wheel caughed inner wheel arch when turning, ok got the leaf springs retensioned and added 50mm extended greasable shackles. Front Gabriel safari shocks and rear iron man shocks. Problem solved only under heavy articulation and turning it still caughed a bit will do some body mods in the wheel arch to solve that. Got rid of the fibre glass full door canopy and eventually got an tail gate. Installed high lift jack points front and rear, got the windows smashed and grab tinted. As I have my own domestic and vehicle air con business now I sorted the air con to work perfectly. Next to do is the sound system I will built in an alpine sound system I(my business also do sound systems). Then I will built an aluminium canopy and later on ether an v8 or just put an inter cooler to the alpine turbo mod (2.8 diesel in now).
Any suggestions please reply!

No need to lift body & trim body work - move the front axle forward by 35mm to solve your tyre scraping issue. Loads on info here on how to do it.

Nice build in the making. My personal preference would be to turf the 2.8D in favour of something else. Even with a turbo you will be wishing for something else. BUT:

A lot of manual conversions around here, some already did 60 000km with out any gearbox problems..... Guess it comes down to how the conversion is done, and what driving stile you have!!!!! I'll rather try and get the manual working and get benefit of that off road.

I would certainly prefer manual as well, but the KZTE box is stronger and will handle the V8 power a lot better. I would still go a step further and replace the diffs with those from a KZTE as well .... added benefit besides the strength here is that the KZ diffs are a little higher in their ratio than those geared for petrol engines (diesels develop more low rev power), so that would give your V8 more legs on the open road (probably be doing about 2700rpm @ 120kmph instead of 3100rpm at a rough guess). ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Hi Jaques,

Ek hoop jy kan my help.
Ek het my Hilux gekoop sonder A/C, sal jy dalk kan help om 'n A/C sisteem van scratch af vir my in te bou? :beg:
Ek vlieg 10 Mei uit vir 3 weke.

Kyk Moz en Namibie kan warm raak sonder A/C!

Dankie.
