Fitted the Donaldson filter to Oubaas
First of all I would like to thank Ian and Heinrich, you guys really gave me peace of mind.
I read on the forum from Heinrich (Traveler) about the Donaldson filter, contacted Ian and then Ian even personally delivered the filter to me because he came close to my home for business. Now that's service. They are both very friendly guys. Heinrich even phoned me and answered all my questions I had regarding the filter.
First I marked the places where I had to make holes. I must add that I was not very keen on writing on or drilling into my new bakkie, but like they say, sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.
Then I installed the bracket.
I then installed the filter and connected the diesel hoses.
I was real chuffed with myself after I fitted it. I then tried to start my bakkie and it failed to start. Tried again, failed again. I thought I broke something or did something wrong, so I changed the fuel lines back to the way it was before and tried to start it. Nothing. By this time I was sweating like crazy. I have not even paid my first installment on my new bakkie and I already broke it. Then I phoned a friend. He told me to look on top of the old diesel filter, there is a button.
He said I should push that until it does not want to push any more.
I did that and very quickly it was stiff. (I'm guessing that this is what they mean by priming.)
Then I prayed , wiped off the sweat to be able to see, turned the key and voila, my bakkie ran.
After that I installed the hoses to pass through the Donaldson again, pushed the button on the existing filter again, but this time it took a loooooong time to become stiff. By this time my hands were cramping up. It became stiff eventually, I started my bakkie and it ran.
Peace of mind in about 30 minutes.
Here is a photo of the bottom of the filter where you can see when water has been removed and it can then be drained out. Quick and painless.
I trust that this information might help someone else also so that they will not have to sweat like I did.

They don't like improvements that will make your vehicle last longer, they don't sell as many parts that way.ChrisF wrote:Dewald my Hilux has just come out of warantee - time to do this (my dealer did not approve this ...)

Re: Fitted the Donaldson filter to Oubaas
Hi Ryan,
It's an extra diesel filter, fitted before the factory fitted diesel filter.
It is supposedly much better than the original. (I only heard good things about this filter so far, even from sources outside of this forum)
Be sure to check out the links supplied above.
