Trevor, do you still have the autocad design for that bumper lying around? I'm ready to fit one now but would first like to do a cost comparison on having one made up from your design or getting one from the fitment guys here. :beg:

SFA Hilux V6..........................................Ford

Post by Hi-Hilux »

Sal my 4y radiator reg wees vir dit ens.

The Ford V6 was a very popular conversion in it's time ... a bit 'old technology' nowadays, but that's also what made the motor reliable ... not a blou-draad motor like the 4Y but not bad either .... you could do worse, but I also think you could do better but then the cost factor rises as well. IIRC the older V6's used to have a tendency to pop the welsh plugs at the back of the heads (firewall end), but this was'nt really a common problem. I would still have the motor 'checked out' before putting it in. Good luck on your decision! :winkx:
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Ek sal jou kom dice hier oor nuwejaar
Ek hoop jy geniet hom :cooldude:

Trevor

Andrew "Sifu Lux" is also running a Ford V6 in his van.

If I recall correctly, he said his consumption was roughly the same as the 4Y.

If you do a search, he has a few posts I think of his conversion.

Good Luck Zane

The power sterring pump will fit. It is mounted to the engine where the mechanical fuel pump mounts. (you need electric pump if you go this way).

Custom steel bracket with adjustment arm.

Trevor, IMO it's unusual to have original rings breaking, unless the motor has been overheated. The reason is that the fit of the rings is such that the expansion gap almost closes completely at max operating temp. When overheated the rings expand further than allowed for and it has nowhere to expand to and the ring breaks. As the rings wear they can handle a bit more expansion, so an older motor would be able to withstand a higher operating temp IRO the rings not breaking.
The most common reason is that the 'ridge' at the top of the bore is not cut or honed down when fitting new rings. The new upper ring is not 'worn in' to this ridge and comes under considerable stress as it comes into contact with the ridge at the top of each upward stroke. Result - snapped rings ... This would appear to be the reason in your case, since its both the upper ring that's broken on those two pistons. Another possibility is the fitment of oversized rings .... again leading to no room for expansion. Cracked pistons is also a sign of overheating if I'm not mistaken.

Perhaps Hoppy can elaborate on this. ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
