Far away from your place, close to your heart

Post by masterd6ib6 »

Salut, ma numesc Marian sunt din Bucuresti Romania. Sunt casatorit si am doi copii frumosi si destepti. Sambata dimineata ma duc la Oradea (600 km) sa-mi iau in primire noul meu Hilux.

Just joking ...
I feel the same when you start rattle afrikaanische.

My name is Marian and I'm from Bucharest Romania. I'm married with a beautiful lady which gave me two beautiful and smart kids (Vlad 16, Ana Maria 22). So ... I'm 50 years old, with a small belly and a lack of hair in top of my head.
I'm in IT business, my wife owns two lingerie boutiques and my daughter study to be Vet. Our house in Bucharest is full of computers and animals (a cat, two dogs, a turtle, aquariums and few birds) and the garden is full of flowers and exotic trees and plants.
Basically I'm automotive engineer so ... I love cars. And I'm mad about TOYOTA HILUX.

The day after tomorrow I'll go to Oradea (600 km from here) to receive my brand new Hilux 3.0 l D-4D 4x4 double cab dark blue. Is a virgin and will be all mine, ONLY MINE.

In 90's I start my first transport company by buying and reconstruct by my hand an old military truck named Bucegi (is the name of a very popular mountain here). He was a beautiful V8 5l petrol engine with 4x4, 5 tones loads. That truck bring me a lot of money and cost me almost nothing. In that time in Romania private transporters was very rare and the fees was very good. May be you heard about a kind of revolution ... Ceausescu ... etc.

After that I own an M461 an old 4x4 petrol engine, an ARO244 4x4 2,5l Diesel, a Lada Niva 4x4 a pure russian and for few years I alternate between Fiat Ducato, Ford Transit, two popular vans and Ford Probe 2,5 l petrol.

But I always want a pickup truck.

I read this extraordinary forum for 2-3 months and I'm full of admiration for you guys. I think in SA and in Australia you can find the true off-road man. True off-road cars and true experience. And I always like to learn from the best.

Start from first of september I'll be a very happy owner of a HILUX. And this is all about.

Thanks’ guys for your welcome.
I'll try to be a good forum partner and join with you (in discussions) where ever is something interesting to say.
Unfortunately I'll be with you only here ... not in the field, but in Romania I'll already join few forum's dedicated to 4x4 off-road and I'll keep you in touch with that rides.

Welcome to the forum :D:
You are not alone with the lack of Afrikaans understanding I live here in SA and I still battle to understand
I think next time I need a translation I will send you a PM and you can request it from one of these guys because if I ask I will probably just get "Bugger of soutie it's time you learnt yourself".....

By the way when I started reading the beginning of your first post I thought you were talking Afrikaans :o:

@Tristan
It's the charm and color of this forum, the rattling on Africaans.
And I have to observe that whend they have something technical to say ... in almost cases they use english ... otherwise ... maybe Africaans is more juicy between friends.

When I first moved to Klerksdorp, my Afrikaans vocabulary was about as limited as Tristan's. However, there being only two of us who spoke English amongst about twenty Afrikaans chaps, one does soon pick up the lingo.

Those "descriptive words" are the ones that I first picked up, as they were used most often. This is probably true for any language, for that matter. So, shortly after arriving here, when invited out for Supper one evening and the Hostess asked how I enjoyed the meal, I proudly let fly with one of my proudly-remembered "descriptive words".

I only realised I had (innocently!) used a very descriptive word long after I had used it and noticed the shocked gaze from the Hostess afterwards...

Luckily, her Hubby explained how I had come to learn about the "descriptive words" .

Riaan, one day when I have a spit braai (chicken) at your farm, I just might tell you... on the other hand, I might not! It was most embarrassing, I was still a laaitie of about 24 when that happened and to this day I have never forgotten it.

It seemed a nice "descriptive word" at the time - definitely unlike any English word I ever knew then (and even now! )

I actually want to PM it to Rich, so he can equally express his gratitude with great joy & enthusiasm at their Drinks sessions every second day. (Those Capies are a thirsty lot...)

I sent a PM to another member earlier this afternoon, and one word that I used (which I do not think is actually a "bad" word - "tin-sem!" (replace the Tin" with "blik") and it was automatically changed to "vent" by the forum...  Kinda changed the meaning of what I had intended saying!

I noticed that when I first tried to submit this post :? "vent" just doesn't quite have the same effect

you can always use the english form of the word blik.sem as calling someone a lightning bolt just does not have exzactly the same connectation as the afrikaans translation.

Welcome. Teach us some Romanian and we we will teach you Afrikaans. What does destepti mean?

Unfortunatally Google does not have an Afrikaans translater and even though Afrikaans comes from dutch a Duch translater wouldnot help much as Duch is to Afrikaans as the old King James or Shakesperean type English is to modern English and there spelling also differs much for example they will use ij when we use y

In Afrikaans it would be something like:

Hallo my naam is Marian en ek is van Boekarest Roemenië. Ek is getroud en het twee pragtige kinders en (whatever destepti means  ). Saterdag oggend gaan ek na Oradea (600km) om ontvangs van my nuwe hilux te neem.

Translating this back to English on http://interpret.co.za yields:

Using Interpret you should be able to get some sort of undertstanding of what was said

Sorry for missing the conversation, I was in Oradea and pickup my pickup.
@Ben
destepti = plural for wise, clever, smart
And I'll be glad to teach everyone of you Romanian.

But for now I think is more interesting to say something about my first 650 km with my new Blue.
Distance Oradea, Cluj, Medias, Sibiu, Rm Valcea, Pitesti, Bucuresti ... 646 km
40 % plain and straights roads ( speed 90-120 km/h )
40 % mountains, hills, sinuous, serpentines ( speed 60-100 km/h )
20 % highway ( speed 130-170 )
A/C on all the time
Hilux computer say I have an average consumption of 12.6 km/l
My calculation ... average 16 km/l
I made 646 km with aprox 40 l of diesel.
I fill up the tank with 80 l and here in front of my yard I have 1/2 tank on the car clock.

If you have additional question ... feel free to ask

One thing to keep in mind though is that you cannot do calculations on the level of the fuel gauge. When it shows that it is halfway, it is more likely a 3rd of a full tank. It would have been nice if he could have filled it again when he got home and using the litres it took to fill for the calculations.

So IMHO, the consumption is more likely to be 12,6Km/l as the computer said.

Cassie is right ... I know that the gauge is not accurate.
Till now I already make another 100 km in town and the gauge show like 3/4 of thank is empty.
I'll do a full tank again today and ... to be continued.

Driving feelings

BIG … security, protected, safe, visibility.
Engine
Powerful, elastic, most of the city need only 2 and 3rd gear, gear shaft long and very good position at the wheel.

Interior

BIG … comfortable, handy.
I have a radio CD MP3 original Toyota and a bed liner, like bonus from the dealer.
My 16 years son, Vlad was with me and with this occasion I was updated with a full discography AC/DC and Led Zeppelin, Audio Slave … and so … no boring, no silence all the trip.

My beauty has temporary plates, no fiscal role, but she has already a name Miss Bear, Ursoaica in Romanian.
She's still a virgin ... no modification, so far ... only a bed liner.
