285/70R17. Will those tires fit???Help

Hello
Im looking to change my stock 255/70/15r
wheels to 285/70/17r trd rims with all terrain
bf goodrich tires on 17inch TRD rims.
Are they going to fit with out lifting the
suspension on the stock suspension without rubbing? If so
how is it going to affect the ride and off road
capabilities? Also how much height gain will
there be ?
Car is 2015 Hilux Vigo 4x4 sr5 all stock brand new

The combination you are looking at is an 11,2% increase !!

The tire guys recommend you dont exceed 3% increase.

This combination will give you a massive 46mm lift


But if it was that easy, everybody would do it .....


The gear ratio would be WAY out, and the Hilux wont be able to pull away on a down hill ...


The brakes will be totally undersized !!



Let's play with some other combinations :

275 / 70 / 16 .... not nearly as visually pleasing .... STILL 7,2% too large !!

for ON road use you could consider going for a lower profile ....

for OFF road use you really want to keep the side wall as high as possible - you NEED to be able to lower the tire pressures to handle serious off road !!

Firstly welcome to the Forum
I would rather go with a higher tyre wall (75) which puts more tyre between the rim and the road, which is a great help for the potholes and other road hazards. This also gives you a noce floatation foot when driving on soft sand, as you can let your tyres down further. Lastly you do not need to do any modifications or do nor even need to change rim size, which is also your best cost factor in the equasion. When travelling far from cities you may struggle to get certain sizes, so do a bit of homework, unless you are building a cool pavement crawler. My 2CW...

it went from 15' to 16' about 6 years back, to accomodate larger brakes .....

The original rim is 15". It runs 255/70 tires. Theyre pretty ugly rims lol

Im mostly changing the rims for the looks. Im trying to stay away from modifying the suspension thats why im trying to get the best wheels with the best looks under there without compromising performance

So whats your expert suggestion? Im looking for something visually appealing and comfortable on road and performance off road prefereable without modifying the suspension ? The height increase is not a problem for me unless it affects performance and safety

The best would be to stick as close to the original size as possible.
255/70R15
265/70R16
265/65R17

You should also be aware of the offset of the wheels you want to fit. Hilux Vigo runs on a +30 offset. I know that you can fit 16's or 17's without a problem of touching the brake calipers, but if the offset gets too big (pushes the wheel away from the suspension) you might end up touching the bodywork again.

I did a little looking around i think the 265/70/r17 will fit decently with no rubbing and wont compromise much performance and looks

Yepp true. I dont think the 265/70R17 will affect the performance much since its pretty close to the factory trd hilux. I could do the 275/60r17 but im looking for taller for a smoother street ride

I have a 2006 hilux d4d, which origanlly had 15" rims on, I have changed them to the legend 45 17" rims and standard size tyres.265x65x17 I will try and attached some pics of my van and the clearance that you need to respect. I have changed the suspension and raised the body. Both of these mods are practical as it improves off road and on road driving and it looks good. as along as looking good doesnt affect your safety and vechile then the mods are good.otherwise dont do it just so that it looks cool.

Lifting a vehicle will never improve ON road driving as it lifts the centre of gravity and make the vehicle more prone to "Roll Over".

Let's not kid ourselves ... We DO alter our veicles, and sometimes it improves the off road capabilities. BUT the ON road capabilities ARE reduced ....

Hi.
I am very well aware of the center of gravity, fit an offroad bullbar and winch onto a standard suspension and go for a drive and you will see how low the front dips, and you feel like you are going to get sea sick and your road driving sucks, hence the offroad suspension fitment too level the vechile out, improve your clearance due to the extra weight and road holding abilty does improve cause you have fitted better springs and shocks to handle the load that one would carry when going on a trip. These are not race cars and you have to drive them accordanly. like i said this is was a standard 2006 model , if you go further along Toyota raised the body height in the Hilux model I think they called it the high lift model ,. mine is fitted with an off road suspnesion that matches the factories height. same body ,same height, same tyres same rims that the factory sends out, so I havent even gone anywhere near the 3%. like I stated , if you mods interfere with your safety of yourself and your vechile to make it look cool then you shouldnt do it.

Update

Here's what i finnaly went with. 265/70R17 BF goodrich Ko2 a/t. With 17 inch trd fj cruiser rims.

Changes.
The rise has become slightly smoother over bumps. In highway at high speeds there is a little more wobble on the steering wheel than before.
There is very little rub at the fenders which will easily be fixed.
Also looks great.
