Welkom Werner
Four ways to "lift" a Hilux :
1) Larger tires - this is the only method that actually gets the diffs higher from the ground level. BUT, this impacts on the "pulling power" of the vehicle, the brakes, etc ... It is recommended to not go more than 3% larger than the original tire size.
2) Body lift - spacers are used to raise the body above the chassis. Most often done to get clearance for drastically larger tires. This would then typically go hand in hand with bigger brakes and changing the gearing ... thus a pretty involved job.
3) Suspension lift - this is the most common method. Dedicated 4x4 springs and shocks. This provides ground clearance, and much better articulation for off road driving.
4) "spacers" - cheaper version of step 3 - spacers are used ontop of the shocks to lift the vehicle. Provides ground clearance, without the extra articulation of the suspension upgrade. Good if you only need clearance, but not the articulation.
