Hi Eben and welcome!

It's a bit of a problem if your spare is on a chain winch under the vehicle. There has been some discussion on this in the past and my recollection was that many had done as I had and put a padlock onto the chain which would prevent the chain from passing through the winch, thus preventing the wheel from being able to be lowered. This is in reality no more than a small deterrent - the padlock can be snapped off with ease, Besides this there is the problem that the padlocks get bunged up with mud, dust and gunk under the vehicle, so that if the need arose to use the spare, you yourself would be battling to open the padlock.

Inasmuch as the dirt and gunk is concerned, one could tape it up in a plastic bag to keep it serviceable or otherwise just pump it full of grease so that no dirt can get in.

Discus or 'moon' locks are not as easily butchered as padlocks and one can get smaller versions of these nowadays, so that might be an option but the weak point then becomes the chain itself.

It will be interesting to hear what other theft prevention measures have been tried by other members.

Hi Eben and welcome to the forum.
Fit a wheelnut lock onto the part where it screws down and fit the corresponding nut onto the tool that jacks the wheel down.
This will then be tool specific and almost theft proof.
If you get an extra like set, then one each of these can be fitted to each of the four wheels to also prevent their theft.
I worked through Tiger Wheel & Tyre and got three like sets.
One for the platcar,
One for the lux, &
One for the caravan.
The caravan only has two wheels, so the other two nuts went to lux spare and caravan spare. Still one short though, as have two spares for the lux.
Hope you find an amicable solution...
