Hi,
Got a Hilux 2.8 latest gen. Looking for some security advice on securing the spare tire. The spare has been stolen twice now.
Last time had a motorcycle Masterlock motorcycle chain wrapped through the wheel nut holes then around the chasis.
Spoke to my dealer and he says the "Offical Ones bolted to the chassis" get stolen as well. The crooks just wrap a rope around the tire and pull it off using a car with a towbar.
So any recommendations would be appreciated.

However I have a thick a very thick (whent for the thickest I could get at cycle shop) bike cable lock. It will def not fit through the hole of a wheel nut its to thick. So it goes through rim spokes and around the chassis. Taped the lock up with alot of insulation tape to keep water and dust out.
I also have a small lock on the tow bar pin taped up as well but that is easy to brake, just a bit more of a deterrent tho.

Leave it home in your garage.
Carry a puncture repair kit and a small compressor inside the van.
When you go on a day or multi day trip then fit the spare.

Think this is the way to go for day to day. Just need a thick chemically or heat treated hardened chain for long journeys.RiyadhFortuner wrote:Leave it home in your garage.
