Hi and welcome Martyn!
To get to the inside of the handles you have to remove the inside door panel - first remove the inner handle and the inner latch handle as well as the window winder if it has one (it's held with a spring clip that you have to "unclip" with a piece of thin wire). The panel itself has clips all around that can be unclipped with a flat screw driver of better still, a dinner knife. Once unclipped lift it out of the way and there will be a sheet of plastic that's secured with pitch around the edges - it's a dust seal so don't tear it, you will want to re-fit it later. When that's out of the way you can get to the nuts / screws that secure outer handle. Unclip the lever that's attached to it as well the lock lever (if they are a single unit).
Follow your steps in reverse to reassemble it all again.
