New B.E.E.

Post by Skips4x4 »

Hi All,

Just bought a 1994 2.2 4Y 4x4 D/C with 250000km. My 1st 4x4 ever.......so still learning everyday.
This is what it came with:
OME Suspension (flippin hard ride)
Bull bar
Roll bar
Tow bar
Cattle railings (no idea why....previous owner was not a farmer)
Winch
Long range tank
Power steering
New white15' rims
Engine redone
Gearbox redone
Body has been painted and needs a little TLC, but mechanically sound.

Its not a daily ride, but more for weekends and mild fun off roading.
So far really enjoying it, and so are the kids.

Busy trying to source new front seats to replace the uncomfortable bench seat.
Looking at full leather Mazda 3000D seats at the moment. Complete front and rear set.

Will post pics once I have fitted them.

Cheers for now.

Welcome aboard, Skip!

Yep, the old SFA is known to be a bone shaker and the ride is even harder with standard suspension. There used to be a a standing joke that when you bought an SFA you got a set of kidney belts thrown in for free. Still an awesome vehicle though. :winkx:
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

OME suspension for the SFA is available in either a "comfort" ride or with an extra blade if the vehicle is fitted with a heavy BB and winch. Bulldog had this conversion done some years ago and the ride was very harsh indeed. 4x4MW then removed one leaf from each of the front springs, I also have an ARB BB fitted with winch and there is still plenty of lift, coupled to a now comfortable drive.

The springs removed had curled-up metal tips at their ends, IIRC. You might want to check the leafs on your vehicle. If memory serves me right there were 6 leafs originally fitted, there are now five.

This is my 1994 2.2 4y hilux. Those are the seats I am fitting to make it more comfy. New floor carpets as well and door panels. The old bench seats are horrible. Then to source a set of 2nd hand 31" 15" mud terrains. This is only a toy so will only be used on weekends in the bush and maybe the odd trip to Port Elizabeth to go 4x4 ing. Never been 4x4ing so this will be a real change.
