I drive out to the farm in the Tankwa Karoo on a weekly basis. There are various routes to choose from to get from Cape Town to the farm just south of the Tankwa National Park. I calculated that I have a choice of 7 passes in the 250km plus another 4 within a 50km radius from the farm!
From Cape Town to Ceres1 Du Toits Kloof Pass (scenic tar road, save R25 Toll fee)
2 Or go via Wellington over the Bains Kloof Pass (very narrow and scenic tar road)
3 Or go via the Nuwekloof Pass between Tulbach & Gouda (tar)
From Ceres to the Karoo4 Gydo Pass (scenic tar)
5 Katbakkies Pass (gravel & very narrow tar on steep sections, very scenic)
6 Theronsberg Pass (tar, sometimes snow in winter)
7 Swaarmoed Pass (tar, on the Matroosberg reserve road)
In the Tankwa Karoo8 Ganaga Pass (gravel, very scenic)
9 Ouberg Pass (gravel, very scenic some steep sections)
10 Verlaatekloof Pass (to the farm via Sutherland, tar)
11
Koedoesberg Pass (5km from the farm, rough gravel, need a 4x4 and can reach Sutherland by going over the
Koedoesberg range)
Choices, choices.........
