Next January, Peru will become the 27th country to host the Dakar. This morning, the event took shape with the announcement of three cities that are to host legs of the rally, before the final finish at Lima, the country´s capital.
Although the reconnaissance teams had already made many trips, and the organisers had already visited the country, this morning also witnessed the first visit to Peru by an official delegation of Dakar World Tour representatives for the organisation of the rally. A ceremony was organised for the occasion in the gardens of the French Embassy, which was opened by Mrs Cécile Pozzo di Borgo, where the rally´s Peruvian programme was unveiled. After having crossed Argentina and Chile, the drivers and crews still in the race will make their first stop at Arequipa. They will then head for Nazca, then Pisco, before celebrating their success at Lima, on the Plaza de las Armas (Main Square) where the finish of the Dakar will be judged on 15th January 2012.
