Reasonable products, in a VERY competative market. Frankly, there are more cost effective suppliers ....

Two reasons for not buying at Alu-Cab:

1.) Over priced

2.) Received a home-built canopy a week ago...

They are not cheap, but if you have hassles they sort the problem out without a quibble. When I was at their workshop, a guy who had a canopy fitted /built there came to have damage fixed where he had reversed into a tree, & they fixed it free of charge. Their rooftop tents are also way stronger than any of the other makes I looked at...without mentioning the names of the others that I looked at, but I went to all the known places around SA including trailer builders.

Ok so we have figured the expensive....

But what about the quality of their products?
I have looked at their drawer systems and I must say they very well made and neat too.....

As the saying goes you pay for quality....
So do they live up to the quality that warrents the extra price....

Agree they have quality products with a quality finish and yes you pay for quality, but you do not pay that much extra for quality. There are other quality products out there at almost half the price. A difference in the region of R7,000 on a canopy don't buy you quality, maybe R2,000 difference does.
There is no problem to charge more for a quality product, but there are limits.

Gomad's canopies are great quality and have a good finish. The man in charge is full of crap when it comes to quality, so his products are very good. After sales also very good.
Think his basic price now is R14k

Hi guys

I have had 2 alu cabs first for my 2.7 hilux and now for my d4d.

I have done a lot of homework regarding this "style" of canopy and there are plenty guys and company's now that manufacture them.

My option is that yes they are expensive but I will always over look and out way cost for great service and awesome products.

Gerald and alu cab has a hilux so he knows best, they are always willing to help and always go the extra mile.

They have rigged up both my hiluxes and he is still going to sort out my storage system foe the d4d.

Cost.........if you work you asses off all day away can't you spoil yourself.

The afrikaans guys have a great saying and I try to live by this with in reason: goed koop is duur koop.

They are they best in my opion.

They are the best and will give you want you need.

But just like anything they have moved the edenvale and the new sale guys are very slow and don't know their products.

I found that a bit disappointing and I've been going to them for a long time now.

They have a opening this weekend.

Look myself and 3 other mates went to see them as I was rating them the best and my mates just the the forum was asking about alu cab.

Maybe it's just because of the moving that the guys are a bit all over the place. But we waited for 4days for a quote. I have never waited for a quote before, so like I said moving a big shop like that will take a lot of planning and everybody's mind will be somewhere else. I will still go there no matter what.

Come join this weekend, they having all there suppliers there to show off the products and there will be specials.

Thanks for all the good feedback from old and new customers - Funny how some people think paying more is a good thing and that you get a better product if you pay more. Things like running cost and profit margins must also be taking into consideration.

Sorry guys dont want to start a fight but I am sick and tiered of hearing that they are more expensive due to quality thus in reverse you are saying that we who charge less are building crap. I actually heard from a customer that we use poor quality alu and and and that is why we are cheaper that Them - funny we all by from the same suppliers.

This is true Gysie and it must sound like I'm promoting alu cab but that's not the case I have received bad experience from another brand and this is why I was promoting "more expensive is better"

But all brands have their qualities and power points
This really has been a great thread, but as customers we should have the choice and should not be ripped off regardless of product.

Very nice products and good quality, but a little steep for my pocket and I feel that I can make my own that would suit me for what I would use it for and the amount of times it would get used.

Or keep your eyes open for a second hand alu-cab canopy if you have time on your hands. After 18 months of searching the web, this forum and others, we just bought one for under R10k.
